In a stunning act that many are calling outright antisemitism, Israel’s delegation to the United Nations has been forced to opt out of a critical Security Council meeting on Gaza because the UN scheduled it on the Jewish feast of Rosh Hashanah, one of the most sacred days in the Jewish calendar.
Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, confirmed in a letter to the Security Council President that Israel would not attend, emphasizing that repeated requests to reschedule the meeting were ignored.
“Despite Israel’s request to the Presidency and Council members to reschedule, the meeting remains set for that date — one of the most significant in the Jewish calendar, marking the start of the High Holy Days,” Danon wrote. “It’s unfortunate that the Security Council will meet without Israel.”

Reports from the Washington Free Beacon indicate that the UN’s scheduling was influenced by pressure from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), who aggressively pushed for the Gaza meeting to fall during Rosh Hashanah. A former US diplomat told the Free Beacon:
“The United Nations has long had an anti-Israel problem—if not actual outright anti-Semitism—but purposely hosting such a meeting on one of the holiest days for the Jewish community is them going out of their way to exclude Jews who observe Rosh Hashanah and serves as a statement against the world’s only Jewish state.”
Rising Global Recognition of ‘Palestinian State’
The timing of the UN meeting comes as countries including Canada, the United Kingdom, France, and Australia have announced recognition of a “Palestinian State,” a move Israel condemns as rewarding terrorism. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar sharply criticized the decision, warning that the leaders involved “will be remembered with eternal shame” for their “moral severity and diplomatic error.”
Danon also dismissed the recognition of Palestine as “empty declarations that ignore reality.”
Prophetic Implications: Pressure on Jerusalem
The unfolding UN drama has prompted prophetic analysts to weigh in. Erick Stakelbeck, host of The Watchman Newscast, linked the developments to biblical prophecy in Zechariah 12:3, which speaks of Jerusalem becoming a burdensome stone that the world comes against.
“It’s a pretty explosive situation, and I believe it has major prophetic implications,” Stakelbeck said. “These Western nations want to see Jerusalem as the centerpiece of a Palestinian state. Zechariah 12 talks about Jerusalem becoming a burdensome stone that the entire world will come against Jerusalem in the days to come—and all of them will be ‘cut to pieces’ because they are trying to divide God’s land.”
Stakelbeck continued:
“They covet God’s one and only eternal city, Jerusalem. Ultimately, it’s not going to work, but expect the pressure to increase.”
