Franklin Graham: ‘Equality Act’ will lead to Christian persecution ‘as never before’

July 15, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Evangelical leader Rev. Franklin Graham is speaking out against one of the LGBT lobby’s top congressional priorities, warning that the so-called Equality Act would have “catastrophic consequences” for both religious freedom and women’s rights if it became law.

The Equality Act would amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include “sex,” “sexual orientation,” and “gender identity” among expressly recognized “non-discrimination” categories in “public accommodations” (the definition of which would be dramatically expanded); and force employers of 15 or more people to recognize their claimed “gender identity,” forbid them from “discriminating” based on “sexual orientation” or “gender identity,” and mandate transgender “access” to sex-specific facilities.

In May, the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives voted to pass the bill, which Graham warns could become law depending on the outcome of next year’s elections, WND reports.

“If the Senate majority changes or if enough Republican senators change their position, it would be up to the president to veto the bill. And if that office were to change hands in 2020, I have little doubt this would become the law of the land,” Graham wrote in the July-August issue of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association magazine Decision.

If that happens, he continued, Christian employers “would lose all protections to hire people who adhere to their biblical statements of faith. Christians will be persecuted for their sincerely held beliefs as never before. The clear teachings of the Bible on the sins of homosexuality and abortion will no doubt be considered ‘hate speech.’ It will be a nightmare from which this nation may never recover.”

Conservatives have long warned that the legislation’s true purpose is not to protect homosexual or gender-confused Americans from tangible harm, but to force other Americans such as photographers, florists, and bakers to participate in same-sex “weddings”; to force employers and businesses to accommodate cross-dressing, same-sex cohabitation, and sex-change treatments regardless of their own values or policies; and to force women and girls to sleep, shower, and use the bathroomalongside gender-confused males.

WND adds that in the same issue, the Graham association’s Jerry Pierce warned that the Equality Act “would make no exemptions for religious institutions and explicitly invalidates the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act,” leading to the closure of adoption agencies that insist children be placed in homes with a mother and a father along with stripping “parents of their right to raise and educate their own children if their beliefs contradict government mandates.”

“Rather than offering meaningful protections for individuals, the Equality Act would impose sweeping new norms that negatively impact the unborn, health care, charitable services, schools, personal privacy, athletics, free speech, religious liberties, and parental rights,” five chairmen of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) declared in May.

“The Act’s unsound definitions of ‘sex’ and ’gender identity’ would erase women’s distinct, hard-won recognition in federal laws. Its sex-based nondiscrimination terms would end women’s shelters and many single-sex schools. It would close faith-based foster care and adoption agencies that honor children’s rights to a mother and father. The bill would even act as an abortion mandate,” the bishops added.

The Daily Caller reported last month that every 2020 Democrat presidential candidate averaging above 1% in the polls has endorsed the Equality Act, including former Vice President Joe Biden, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, and Sens. Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, and Elizabeth Warren. (Click to Source)

President Trump, moved by religious persecution victims’ plight, insists meeting go into overtime

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 19, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – With a meeting near its end and more than two dozen victims of global religious persecution about to be ushered out of the Oval Office, President Trump insisted that they stay longer so that he could listen to more of their testimonies and requests for help.

Twenty-seven people from 16 countries who had been or are persecuted for their faith gathered around the president’s desk on Wednesday. Some spoke briefly of their harrowing plights and others simply thanked President Trump for his administration’s efforts to promote and protect religious freedom.

Among the guests was Pastor Andrew Brunson, who languished in a Turkish jail before the Trump administration intervened to secure his freedom.

“What you have in common is each of you has suffered tremendously for your faith,” noted the President as he welcomed his guests to the Oval Office. “You’ve endured harassment, threats, attacks, trials, imprisonment, and torture.”

“Each of you has now become a witness to the importance of advancing religious liberty all around the world,” he said. “It’s about religious liberty.”

“In America, we’ve always understood that our rights come from God, not from government,” continued the President. “In our Bill of Rights, the first liberty is religious liberty. Each of us has the right to follow the dictates of our conscience and the demands of our religious conviction. We know that if people are not free to practice their faith, then all of the freedoms are at risk and, frankly, freedoms don’t mean very much.”

“That’s why Americans will never tire in our effort to defend and promote religious freedom,” said the President. “To me, it’s very important. It’s vital. It’s really vital.”

“You’ve been through a lot — more than most people could ever endure,” added the President. “It’s really an honor to be with you, and I will stand side by side with you forever.”

“Thank you for your leadership, standing up for humanity, standing up for religious groups and their rights,” said a man who survived the horrific Christchurch, New Zealand, mosque massacre, where 51 perished. “And God bless you. And God bless the United States.”

“Sir, I am from Bangladesh,” said one woman. “My request is: Please help us. We don’t want to leave our country. Just help, Mr. President. I have lost my home. They burned my home. They’ve taken my land.”

Ms. Zhang, a Falun Gong practitioner, told the President that her husband remains a prisoner for his faith in China. “And the forced organ harvesting still exists.”

“Mr. President, one to three million Uyghur population are locked up in concentration camps in China, including my father, who is now serving a life sentence. I haven’t seen him since 2013,” explained Ms. Ilham.

When President Trump asked her if she is able to communicate with her father, Ilham explained, “I haven’t heard about him since 2017, because that’s when the concentration camps started.”

“Anyone who goes to ask about anybody’s family members’ news will never make their way back to their own homes,” she added.

Esther Bitrus of Nigeria shook the President’s hand as she said, “I escaped from Boko Haram.”

Mr. Ju spoke of his family’s plight in North Korea, saying, “All of them, they are in political prison camp.”

“I don’t know where is; they just took [them] at the dawn,” because they are Christians, said Ju.  He also explained that his cousin’s family had been executed.

Among the last to speak was Nadia Murad, who received the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize for her work in helping women and children who are victims of abuse and human trafficking.

Murad told President Trump about her harrowing experience as a girl in Iraq: “When ISIS attack us in 2014, they killed six of my brothers. They killed my mom. They took me to captivity with my … sister-in-law, with all my sister and my nieces.”

“Today we have 3,000 Yazidi women and children in captivity,” she added.

During the course of the meeting, Pastor Paula White commended the President for his  courageous leadership. “I have watched, from day one and even before you took this office, you be a relentless fighter for people of all faiths and religious liberty.”

“We see it stateside — from you saying we can say ‘Merry Christmas’ again; to the DOJ passing laws that no other administration could pass to give high holy days to all religions to be able to take off of work and to honor that,” said White.

“So we thank you, President, for being the leader — the courageous leader to stand up not only in our nation, but countries all around, for all faith, of all people that we should have the practice and the right to practice our religion,” she added. (Click to Source)

10 amendments to keep the pro-LGBT ‘Equality Act’ from persecuting Christians

May 20, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — Well, they did it. Nancy Pelosi’s rogue lawmakers passed the anti-Christian, anti-health, anti-morality, anti-child “Equality Act” (H.R. 5). And so now it heads to the Senate.

Where timid, compromised Republicans wait to offer amendments they can hide behind. We can hope Mitch McConnell never brings this bill to the floor.

But watchfulness is needed. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) is chairman of the Judiciary Committee. Keep an eye on Rob Portman (Ohio); Mitt Romney (Utah); Richard Burr (N.C.); Susan Collins (Maine); possibly Martha McSally (Ariz.); and of course, Lisa Murkowski (Alaska). There’s more than enough to worry about.

And Trump has stated he has reservations but has not committed to a veto.

But hold on. Maybe there are amendments that would make H.R. 5 (and its Senate version, S. 788) acceptable. Here’s a possible list:

1. Let’s see an amendment that upholds religious liberty: “Nothing in this act will infringe upon the First Amendment religious freedom rights of any citizen, nor bar RFRA (the Religious Freedom Restoration Act) as a defense for a cause of action.”

The Human Rights Campaign along with Joe Biden calls religious objections “a license to discriminate.” But let’s not worry about them as we remove a bit of  totalitarianism from S. 788.

Let’s continue, because much, much more is needed.

2. In the spirit of truth over mythology, let’s amend the bill’s definitions with a crucial clarification: “Nothing in this bill is to imply that ‘lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer’ (‘LGBTQ’) behaviors are immutable like race. Fourteenth Amendment defenses are therefore inapplicable. Nor are those who identify as ex-homosexuals or ex-transgenders to be subject to unconstitutional First Amendment or civil rights’ violations.”

But wait! There’s more.

3. Another amendment should remove all barriers to counseling choice. Period. The act at present would accelerate bans on talk therapy (pejoratively labeled “conversion therapy”) for all teens and even adults. The act labels such help “discrimination.”

Because no one ever chooses this counseling willingly, right? No teen in the history of the world has ever logically observed that human bodies don’t fit “LGBT” or “Q” behaviors and then sought freedom from disordered desires. If a teen undergoes counseling to overcome homosexual attractions or gender confusion, it’s always under heavy pressure by redneck, right-wing, Bible-thumping parents, right?

Incorrect. Without such therapy, one writer says he would have killed himself as a teen.

But we are not done.

4. “It shall not be considered an act of ‘discrimination’ under this Act to reveal in a classroom or for other educational purposes, the high risks and medical consequences of ‘LGBTQ’ behaviors. This may include citing HIV/AIDS surveillancedata on ‘males who have sex with males’ or the high correlation found in the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (CDC) in 9th to 12th graders who identify as ‘gay, lesbian or bisexual’ with early sexual activity, substance abuse and other behavioral risk factors; or by noting the potential health hazards of opposite-sex hormones on adolescent growth and development; or the overall negative outcomes of a ‘transgender’ identity, including the higher prevalence of suicide ideation.”

Let’s continue that line of thought:

5. Concerning parental rights, one amendment should allow parents to remove their children from any school discussion of “sexual orientation” or “gender identity.” And if lesson plans feature condoms; chemical castration; oral and anal sex; and all the deviant elements the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) insists belong in an “inclusive” sex ed curriculum, parents and also school boards have the right to bring these lessons to a halt without being labeled as bigots and haters, being trashed in the local media, having their phone numbers given out so they and their children get threatening phone calls, or having their employers contacted so they get fired.

Speaking of endangering other people, there’s another action needed:

6. The Equality Act could definitely use an amendment that removes the entire “transgender” (“T”)  sub-group of the “LGBTQ” coalition. Isn’t it kind of an albatross? The whole “non-discrimination” measure would be sleeker and speedier minus disputes about bathrooms, female sports, women’s shelters, and the obvious dangers to women (and sanity) that some progressives suddenly don’t see.

And as the gender rebellion lobby screams from coast to coast, let’s deal with the assault on biology and the unborn.

7. Clarification: “Nothing in this bill is to be construed as overturning federal restrictions on abortion funding, or altering current definitions of ‘sex’ in federal law. This definition shall continue to rely on biological sex as determined at birth.”

And:

8. “An employee shall not be found to have committed employment discrimination as a result any of the following: social media postings outside  work time, profession of evangelical Christian faith, unwillingness to verbally affirm ‘LGBTQ’ behaviors or same-sex unions, starting an employee group for Christians or conservatives, professing support for a known conservative political figure, or for refusing to be a vendor for a same-sex ceremony or other homosexuality-affirming event.”

We cannot forget to add this one:

9. “‘Public accommodations’ in this bill are not to include church facilities, church property, religious organizations, synagogues, or any church camp or faith-based wedding venue. Public accommodations are not to include schools, youth-related organizations, camps, or any locale where children or teens gather, because of the documented adverse effects and destabilizing influence of homosexuality and gender confusion on youth.”

Last but not least:

10. “Nothing in this act shall prevent a health care professional from refusing to provide puberty-blocking medications to nine-year-olds, or from refusing to prescribe testosterone to teen girls or estrogen to teen boys, or from declining participation in surgery to amputate the healthy breasts of 13-year-old girls, or the penises of 16- year-old boys. Health care conscience freedom is not to be infringed by the inequalities embedded in the ‘Equality Act.’”

Okay, I might be dreaming — but then, I dream of an America where homosexuals and gender anarchists are not in charge.

What’s left in H.R. 5/S. 788? It’s been pretty well stripped bare. That’s perfectly okay with me and millions of other Americans. (Click to Source)

Religious Freedom Expert: Global War on Christians Intensifying

The Sri Lanka Easter Sunday massacre on three churches is a signal the Muslim extremist war on Christians is intensifying across the world and something needs to be done about it, a religious freedom expert told Fox News.

Nina Shea, director of the Center for Religious Freedom of the Hudson Institute, said the United States needs to do more to protect Christians in countries where they are being slaughtered.

“We sell ourselves short,” Shea said. “We don’t ever defend Christians, we always have higher priorities regarding terror. We don’t understand there’s a link between the two. The weakness of those Christians makes them a very soft target, and the governments don’t feel any pressure coming from us. They feel pressure coming from one side, and that’s the extremists.”

Statistics from the Hudson Institute are alarming. Every month about 345 Christians are killed for “faith-based” reasons and 105 churches or Christian buildings are burned or attacked. Globally, one in nine Christians experiences persecution.

“I don’t think people are aware of it,” Shea said. “They’re afraid of talking about it. Some of them are afraid that they will get retribution by the extremists if they talk about it back in those countries.”

She added: “In fact, the United States did give Sri Lanka a quiet warning that churches were going to be attacked over Easter and they did not heed it. We need to elevate this.”

Shea’s colleague, Sam Tadros, estimates there have been about 500 church attacks in the last couple of years. These occurred on Palm Sunday, a coordinated attack a couple of years ago on Christians in December in Cairo.

“It’s heartbreaking and it happens in the villages,”

In Egypt, the government is going after ISIS, Shea notes, but there are local Muslim extremist groups attacking churches with impunity. In Nigeria, an estimated 900 church attacks happened in a five-year period.

“These are happening on Christmas, Easter,” Shea concluded. “The short term solution is security and we need to promote that.” (Click to Source)

Catholic Church: Raping Children is ‘Religious Freedom’ for Pedophile Priests

High-level Vatican officials claim ‘liberty’ for choosing pedophilia

Cardinal Timothy Dolan claims raping children is a priests ‘religious freedom’

In a depraved and disturbing statement by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, a high-ranking cleric from the Catholic Church, he claimed that pedophilia is granted by God for priests. The vile comment was made by Cardinal Timothy Dolan after being found to have transferred church finances into a trust to keep them from being sued for clergy child abuse. The Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee kept $55 million dollars in church funds from lawsuits started by victims of priestly sexual abuse, and transferred the money to a separate trust to take care of the archdiocese’s cemeteries and mausoleums, stated a letter by Timothy Dolan, the then-Archbishop of Milwaukee. When victims came forward to seek compensation in a bankruptcy proceeding, the archdiocese made claims that their ability to sexually molest children is a right of religious liberty and that no money should be compensated to victims of clergy child sex abuse.

The Catholic Church has a relentless problem with child abuse

Church and State finds the allegations against the Archdiocese in Milwaukee to be shocking and it involved 45 priests that had been accused of molesting around 200 deaf boys. Think Progress reports that the $55 million from the bankruptcy proceedings went into a trust for mausoleums and cemeteries. They then used their religious freedom as a defense against victims. It worked when a court ruled that religious freedom ensured their right to not compensate the victims in 2013. The first court was overruled by the Seventh Circuit Court, yet it doesn’t imply that victims will be compensated, but an appeal will follow.

The church states the money is needed to fund mausoleums and cemeteries, and if they have to compensate victims, their obligations to service the deceased will be unfulfilled.

Poppe Francis is often accused of being to soft on pedophile priests

Religious freedom has become quite an issue after the archdiocese says it had a Canonical obligation to “properly maintain in perpetuity” the mausoleums and cemeteries that rely on funding from the trust.

If victims of sexual abuse and creditors are compensated, the archdiocese states, “there will be no funds or, at best, insufficient funds, for the perpetual care of the Milwaukee Catholic Cemeteries,” therefore the archdiocese claims it won’t be able to complete its religious obligation. With the rejection of this claim that the archdiocese having the religious right to transfer trust funds on burial places and only there, the 7th Circuit explained many reasons why religious freedom can’t oversway the rights of victims of clergy sex abuse and the archdiocese’s creditors.

The court ruled the archdiocese’s claim for religious liberty would fail under constitutional scrutiny. The court ruled churches do not have the right to be exempt from paying taxes into Social Security, and that public interest can replace religious freedom: Drawing a comparison to a Supreme Court decision holding that religious objectors may not opt out of Social Security taxes, the court notes that federal bankruptcy law, like Social Security, “serves the public interest by providing a comprehensive… system with a variety of benefits available to all participants’ nationwide.”

Just as Social Security “aids those who have reached a certain age or are disabled, the Code aids those who have reached a certain financial condition and who need assistance repaying or recovering a debt.” It was warned by the court that if this becomes a precedent, there will be no way to predict where it will end up.Anyone at any time can join or create a cult to “gain economic advantage” or businesses can rely on their religious beliefs, no matter what the case, to violate or discriminate laws in ways the Catholic Church has justified pedophilia. Christian pastors are being arrested in the UK for preaching the word of God… while UK tyrants protect Islamic radicals

religion-882281_960_720

(Natural News) Freedom of speech in the United Kingdom is under attack after a Christian preacher was arrested for sharing his faith in the public square.

According to reports, David Lynn, a non-denominational ministry leader from Canada, was forcibly removed from a train station in Barking after a lesbian woman accused him of calling her “perverse” and “sinful” during his message.

Lynn denies this allegation – and video footage from the event corroborates his defense – but that didn’t stop British police from arresting the preacher and detaining him for more than 20 hours.

Though he was eventually released without a charge filed, Lynn, who has been preaching from the Bible for 22 years, had to seek legal counsel from the Christian Legal Center, a U.K.-based organization that helps Christians all over the world handle legal cases such as this that involve accusations of “discrimination.”

As the head of Christ’s Forgiveness Ministries, which has congregations not only in the U.K. but also in the United States and Canada, Lynn had plenty of support on the tube platform that fateful day in which he was taken away in cuffs. He says he was only there to help people find a right relationship with Jesus Christ, which involves turning from sin.

“He preached about people searching for love in the wrong places, and that it is only through a right relationship with Christ that this deep need can be satisfied,” the Christian Legal Center reported.

“A crowd formed, and David frequently handed the microphone to onlookers to allow them to respond to his preaching. It was alleged that David called a homosexual lady in the crowd ‘perverse’ and ‘sinful,’ though he denies this and video footage captured of the preaching does not substantiate her complaint. Instead, it shows groups of supporters cheering, chanting ‘Jesus’ and supporting David throughout his preaching. The atmosphere was more like a carnival that [sic] a confrontation.”

U.K. authorities ban woman from country, dub her a “terrorist,” simply because she spoke out against Islam

What seems to have further bothered U.K. authorities is the fact that Lynn isn’t a Muslim, which seems to be the only religious faction in Great Britain that receives religious protection anymore. Christians like Lynn who openly share their faith are becoming increasingly marginalized and persecuted.

And it’s happening all over the U.K., as Christians like Lynn are continually being targeted for exercising their free speech rights. A Christian woman by the name of Lauren Southern was actually barred from entering the country after she was accused of violating Islam’s “Blasphemy” laws simply for speaking out against the religion.

The U.K. actually declared Southern to be a “terrorist” after she and some friends conducted a social experiment in which they handed out flyers that were critical of Islam. Southern’s attempted entry back into the country after being kicked out was denied, as authorities stated that allowing her presence would not be “conducive to the public good.”

Her flyer, which claimed to be a fictitious group known as “LGBT for Islam UK,” stated:

“Allah is Gay, Allah is Trans, Allah is Lesbian, Allah is Intersex, Allah is Feminist, Allah is Queer, Allah is All of Us.”

Like Lynn, Southern was immediately targeted and eventually forced out of the U.K. She later told Fox News that she believes the ordeal “could be marking the end of conservative speech in the U.K. or the beginning of an era of serious censorship.”

In defending his actions, Lynn told the media that his only goal is to bring the “life-changing message of Jesus Christ’s love and forgiveness to the world through evangelism.” He added that, while his arrest came as a shock, he’s grateful to those who continue to support him and who have helped him avoid being charged with crimes he didn’t commit. Pentagon: Religious Proselytizing is Not Permitted

boykin

Religious liberty groups have grave concerns after they learned the Pentagon is vetting its guide on religious tolerance with a group that compared Christian evangelism to “rape” and advocated that military personnel who proselytize should be court martialed.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation is calling on the Air Force to enforce a regulation that they believe calls for the court martial of any service member caught proselytizing.

President Mikey Weinstein and others from his organization met privately with Pentagon officials on April 23. He said U.S. troops who proselytize are guilty of sedition and treason and should be punished – by the hundreds if necessary – to stave off what he called a “tidal wave of fundamentalists.”

“Someone needs to be punished for this,” Weinstein told Fox News. “Until the Air Force or Army or Navy or Marine Corps punishes a member of the military for unconstitutional religious proselytizing and oppression, we will never have the ability to stop this horrible, horrendous, dehumanizing behavior.”

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, told Fox News he was stunned that the Pentagon would be taking counsel and advice from the Military Religious Freedom Foundation.

“Why would military leadership be meeting with one of the most rabid atheists in America to discuss religious freedom in the military,” Perkins said. “That’s like consulting with China on how to improve human rights.”

The FRC has launched a petition drive urging Defense Sec. Chuck Hagel to protect the religious freedom of troops “and not to proceed with the purge of religion within the ranks called for by anti-Christian activists.”

Pentagon officials met with Weinstein and his group were to discuss a policy called “Air Force Culture, Air Force Standards,” published on Aug. 7, 2012.

Section 2.11 requires “government neutrality regarding religion.”

“Leaders at all levels must balance constitutional protections for an individual’s free exercise of religion or other personal beliefs and the constitutional prohibition against governmental establishment of religion,” the regulation states.

Military leaders were admonished not to use their position to “promote their personal religious beliefs to their subordinates or to extend preferential treatment for any religion.”

Weinstein said it’s time for the Air Force to enforce the regulation – with zeal.

“If a member of the military is proselytizing in a manner that violates the law, well then of course they can be prosecuted,” he said. “We would love to see hundreds of prosecutions to stop this outrage of fundamentalist religious persecution.”

He compared the act of proselytizing to rape.

“It is a version of being spiritually raped and you are being spiritually raped by fundamentalist Christian religious predators,” he told Fox News.

He said there is a time and a place for those in uniform to share their faith – but he took issues with fundamentalism that he says is causing widespread problems in the military.

“When those people are in uniform and they believe there is no time, place or manner in which they can be restricted from proselytizing, they are creating tyranny, oppression, degradation, humiliation and horrible, horrible pain upon members of the military,” he said.

Perkins said the military regulations have “Weinstein’s fingerprints all over it.”

“It threatens to treat service members caught witnessing as enemies of the state,” he said, referring to a Washington Post article highlighting Weinstein’s meeting with Pentagon officials. “Non-compliance, the Pentagon suggests, even from ordained chaplains could result in court-martialing on a case-by-case basis.”

The Pentagon confirmed to Fox News that Christian evangelism is against regulations.

“Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense, LCDR Nate Christensen said in a written statement. He declined to say if any chaplains or service members had been prosecuted for such an offense.

“Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis and it would be inappropriate to speculate on the outcome in specific cases,” he said.

Ron Crews, the executive director of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, warns that the Air Force policy would “significantly impact the religious liberties of Air Force personnel.”

“Saying that a service member cannot speak of his faith is like telling a service member he cannot talk about his spouse or children,” Crews said. “I do not think the Air Force wants to ban personnel from protected religious speech, and I certainly hope that it is willing to listen to the numerous individuals and groups who protect military religious liberty without demonizing service members.”

In an interview with the Washington Post, Weinstein called proselytizing a “national security threat.”

“And what the Pentagon needs to understand is that it is sedition and treason,” he told the newspaper. “It should be punished.”

Perkins said it was troubling the Obama Administration would place so much trust in someone like Weinstein.

“Unfortunately, it appears our military is on a forced march away from the very freedoms they are sworn to protect,” he said. “This language from Weinstein that Christians who share their faith or offer comfort to others from their faith in Jesus Christ is “sedition and treason” is a treasonous statement in and of itself.”

But Weinstein said they count thousands of Protestants among their ranks – and said they are simply going after fundamentalists.

“As soon as we find a fundamentalist Muslim, atheist, Jewish person or anybody else, we will be happy to fight them – but so far they have been few and far between,” he said.

Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Jerry Boykin, an executive vice president with the Family Research Council, told Fox News that he’s deeply concerned by what he call a pattern of attacks on Christianity within the military.

“Mickey Weinstein has a very visceral hated of Christianity and those who are Christians,” he said. “He’d like to see it eliminated from the military entirely.”

If the Air Force policy is implemented, Boykin said Christians who speak of their faith “could now be prosecuted as enemies of the state.”

“This has the potential to destroy military recruiting across the services as Americans realize that their faith will be suppressed by joining the military,” Boykin said.

In the meantime, Weinstein and his group said they will continue to push for the Pentagon to fully implement its ban on proselytizing.

“There is a time, place and manner in which proselytizing is not only allowed, but it’s something we support among our Christian clients,” Weinstein said. “However, you can’t scream fire in a crowded theater and you can’t scream Jesus in a crowded theater at certain times, places, and in certain manners.”

Study: Christians Under Threat Around the World

persecution_image250wtn

Christians are rapidly disappearing from the region of Jesus Christ’s birth – the modern Middle East – and are being persecuted in many other regions of the world where their religion is viewed as “Western” and foreign.

The new study, reported Sunday by the British Telegraph newspaper, warns that Christians suffer greater hostility across the world than any other religious group. It also claims politicians have been “blind” to the extent of violence faced by Christians in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

The most dangerous threat to the religion is militant Islam, the report by the think tank Civitas says, because oppression in Muslim countries is often ignored because of a fear that criticism will be seen as “racism”.

Converts from Islam face being killed in Saudi Arabia, Mauritania and Iran and risk severe legal penalties in other countries across the Middle East, the report says: “It is generally accepted that many faith-based groups face discrimination or persecution to some degree.

“A far less widely grasped fact is that Christians are targeted more than any other body of believers,” the study adds.

The study also estimates that 200 million Christians, or 10 per cent of Christians worldwide, are “socially disadvantaged, harassed or actively oppressed for their beliefs.”

“Exposing and combating the problem ought in my view to be political priorities across large areas of the world. That this is not the case tells us much about a questionable hierarchy of victimhood,” the author, Rupert Shortt, a journalist and visiting fellow of Blackfriars Hall, Oxford, tells the Telegraph.

He adds: “The blind spot displayed by governments and other influential players is causing them to squander a broader opportunity. Religious freedom is the canary in the mine for human rights generally.”

The report, entitled Christianophobia, highlights a fear among oppressive regimes that Christianity is a “Western creed” which can be used to undermine them.

SHOCKER: GUESS WHICH COUNTRY IS THE LARGEST PRODUCER OF BIBLES

When one thinks of China, Christianity and the Bible are likely two of the furthest things that come to mind. “Communism,” “forced abortions,” one-child policy” and other terms are, more generally, what’s the nation is known for. But now, a shocking new development has come to the forefront: China, a country that makes many products consumed in the U.S. and abroad, is now also the world’s largest Bible producer.

Amity Printing Company is the only outfit in China that is permitted to produce Christian Bibles. While the Chinese government doesn’t have the most stellar record when it comes to religious freedom, Amity Printing has been fast at work, with the company’s chairman, Qiu Zhonghui, announcing that the business published its 100 millionth Bible in July.

According to a report by Christian Today, the Amity has printed 60 million Bibles, including nine ethnic minority editions in various languages. Additionally, 40 million copies were printed in more than 90 languages and sent to about 70 nations and regions across the globe. The outlet goes onto describe the Christian population in China and the expansion that has led to the nation’s new designation as top Bible producer:

China has more than 16 million Christians today, the Xinhuanet report states, as well as 1,800 seminarians in 18 Bible schools. It also has 55,000 churches and gathering venues, 100,000 church volunteers and 36,000 missionaries.

But some believe the number of Christians in China is actually much higher than the country’s government has said due to the large number of Christians who worship separately from churches run by the government. An article that appeared in the May 2011 issue of First Things magazine, and was written by social sciences professors, combines a number of different surveys to suggest that there may have been about 70 million Christians living in China in 2011.

In 2010, the UK-based Bible Society reported that the growth of the church in China was too rapid for the Bible publisher to keep up with. Christians living in rural areas, or those who don’t belong to CCC/TSPM churches, are often forced to live their faith without the book.

Considering that the printing venture, a joint effort on the part of United Bible Societies and the Amity Foundation, started in 1988, this accomplishment is fascinating.

Christianity Today (different from “Christian Today”) notes that the Chinese government is welcoming this development, with spokesperson Guo Wei recently claiming that officials both respect and protect religious freedom. Wei also went on to say that the government “will continue to support printing and publishing Bibles in China.”

The irony here is that Christian missionaries regularly smuggle Bibles into the nation — an act that some experts claim is dangerous for both the individuals doing it and for locals. Considering author David Aikman’s claim in an interview with Christianity Today that heavy government restrictions have been placed on Bibles (they are only available at government-registered church bookstores), it’s understandable why some have tried to work around the system.

Experts like Christina Graham, director of operations for East Gates International, a group that works to help with Bible distribution locally in China, say that working legally through the system is more effective. There are 70 sales outlets through which the Amity Bibles are available in the country — outlets that Graham helps coordinate.

“We’ve found that working legally in China is far more effective in the long run,” Graham told Christianity Today. “We’ve developed incredible relationships with both governmental officials and house-church believers because we choose to respect the religious policies in their country.”

Amity Printing is based in Nanjing, China.
