U.S. War Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a blunt warning to Russia this week, saying Moscow “should not be involved” in the escalating war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The warning comes amid growing intelligence reports suggesting Russia may be sharing reconnaissance data with Tehran that could help Iran identify American military assets operating in the Middle East.
Speaking to reporters, Hegseth emphasized that the United States is closely monitoring foreign involvement in the conflict.

While officials say there is no public evidence Russia is directing Iranian attacks, the information could potentially assist Iranian targeting efforts.

Experts say Russia possesses reconnaissance satellites capable of tracking naval activity and detecting electronic signatures from military forces.
One example cited by analysts is the Russian satellite Cosmos-2550, which recently passed over areas including the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea where U.S. forces are currently operating.
George Barros, a Russia analyst at the Institute for the Study of War, said such satellites are specifically designed for maritime surveillance.
“They’re specialized for naval reconnaissance and detecting ships,” Barros said.
