The fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal continues to shake the world’s elite institutions. On February 26, 2026, Børge Brende, President and CEO of the World Economic Forum (WEF), announced his resignation following an independent review into his past contacts with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Brende, who has led the WEF since 2017 and succeeded Klaus Schwab as chair of the managing board in 2024, stepped down after U.S. Justice Department disclosures revealed that he attended three business dinners with Epstein in 2018 and 2019 and exchanged emails and text messages with him—years after Epstein’s 2008 guilty plea.
The resignation marks another high-profile departure in what many observers are calling the widening “Epstein reckoning.”

The Justice Department Disclosures
According to reporting from France24 and the Associated Press, recently released DOJ materials documented Brende’s meetings and communications with Epstein well after Epstein’s conviction was public knowledge.
In a public statement, Brende said:
“After careful consideration, I have decided to step down as President and CEO of the World Economic Forum. My time here, spanning 8½ years, has been profoundly rewarding.”
The statement made no direct mention of Epstein.
Brende has argued that he was unaware of Epstein’s criminal past at the time of their meetings and later expressed regret for not conducting deeper due diligence. However, Business Insider previously reported that Brende had denied knowing Epstein as recently as late 2025.
WEF co-chairs André Hoffmann and Larry Fink stated that the independent outside review found “no additional concerns beyond what has been previously disclosed.” Alois Zwinggi has been appointed interim president and CEO.

A Pattern Among Global Elites
Brende is not the only global figure facing consequences over Epstein ties.
In recent weeks, a growing list of political leaders, corporate executives, academics, and public figures have resigned, stepped aside, or come under investigation due to past associations with Epstein.
Among those reported to have stepped down or faced repercussions:
• Former prime ministers and ambassadors
• Prominent university leaders
• Corporate CEOs
• Influential financiers
• Members of European royalty
The cumulative pattern has intensified scrutiny of interconnected elite networks spanning politics, finance, and global governance forums.
Brende is also a member of the Bilderberg Steering Committee, placing him within another high-level transnational policy network frequently criticized for operating behind closed doors.

The WEF’s Credibility Challenge
The World Economic Forum has long positioned itself as a moral architect of global coordination through its Davos gatherings, ESG initiatives, and public-private governance frameworks.
Now its chief executive exits under the shadow of Epstein’s lingering scandal.
Even though the review concluded there were no additional findings, the optics are significant: another central figure within elite global networks tied—however indirectly—to Epstein.
For critics of globalist institutions, the resignation reinforces concerns about opaque power structures.
For the WEF, it represents a reputational crossroads.

Prophetic Context: Hidden Things Revealed
Luke 8:17 (NASB 1995) declares:
“For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.”
Over the past several years, powerful individuals across continents have seen past associations surface into public view. While not every connection proves wrongdoing, the repeated exposure of undisclosed relationships has eroded trust in institutions that preach transparency while operating through private networks.
The Epstein scandal has evolved from a criminal case into a revealing lens on elite interconnectedness.
Scripture reminds us that secrecy does not endure indefinitely.

Strategic Implications
Brende’s resignation raises key questions:
• Will the WEF undergo broader internal reforms?
• Will Davos partnerships face intensified scrutiny?
• Will global institutions increase transparency—or consolidate control?
The interim leadership stabilizes the organization operationally, but reputational damage may linger.
The “Epstein fallout” continues to ripple outward.
And for global institutions already facing skepticism, trust may be the most fragile casualty of all.
