He also argued that Canada built the bridge with “virtually no U.S. content,” referencing a waiver granted during the Obama administration that allowed materials to bypass Buy American provisions.
Trump stated:
“I will not allow this bridge to open until the United States is fully compensated… We should own, perhaps, at least one half of this asset.”
The White House reinforced that position, suggesting shared ownership would ensure American participation in the economic returns generated by U.S. market access.
