A newly released photograph from the Jeffrey Epstein files is sending shockwaves through Silicon Valley and Washington alike, offering a rare visual glimpse into the convicted sex trafficker’s access to some of the most powerful figures in modern technology. The image, released by the U.S. Department of Justice, shows Epstein hosting a 2015 dinner attended by Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and former MIT Media Lab director Joi Ito, with PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel also present but not pictured.
The photograph was emailed by Epstein to himself on August 3, 2015 — just one day after the gathering — and was reportedly framed and displayed in his Manhattan residence.
The Dinner Epstein Called ‘Wild’
According to emails included in the document release, the dinner took place on August 2, 2015. That evening, Epstein wrote to author and physician Peter Attia, casually listing his guests: Musk, Thiel, and Zuckerberg. Attia replied, “Sounds like an awesome dinner.”
Weeks later, Epstein would describe the event as “wild” in an email to billionaire Tom Pritzker — a phrase now drawing intense scrutiny as investigators and journalists reassess Epstein’s elite relationships in light of the newly unsealed records.

Context Matters — And Timing Is Everything
At the time of the dinner, Epstein was already a registered sex offender, having been convicted in Florida years earlier for crimes involving minors. Despite this, his access to prominent figures continued unabated.
Emails show that Elon Musk had corresponded with Epstein as early as 2012, asking about “the wildest party” on Epstein’s private island. Additional messages from 2013 suggest discussions about a potential visit to the Caribbean property, though Musk has repeatedly denied ever traveling there.
Zuckerberg’s representatives have since claimed he encountered Epstein only once at a dinner “honoring scientists” and had no further contact.

MIT, Money, and the Media Lab
Joi Ito’s presence at the dinner further underscores Epstein’s entanglement with elite academic institutions. Epstein donated at least $850,000 to MIT Media Lab between 2002 and 2017, donations later revealed to have been deliberately concealed.
Internal emails described Epstein as “Voldemort” — “he who must not be named” — among Media Lab staff. Ito resigned in 2019 following investigative reporting that exposed efforts to hide the source and extent of Epstein’s financial involvement.

Not Evidence of Guilt — But Evidence of Access
It is important to note: appearing in Epstein-related photographs or correspondence is not evidence of criminal wrongdoing. However, the documents decisively refute long-standing claims that Epstein was a marginal figure with limited reach.
What these files show instead is proximity — sustained, repeated proximity — to individuals shaping technology, finance, academia, and public policy at the highest levels.
Why This Still Matters
Jeffrey Epstein did not operate in isolation. He moved comfortably among global elites long after his crimes were known, collecting influence, favors, and legitimacy simply by being allowed in the room.
As millions of pages continue to be reviewed, one truth is becoming increasingly difficult to dismiss: Epstein’s power did not come from secrecy alone — it came from access willingly granted.
And that raises a question no press release has yet answered.
