Opinion | President Trump, Great Job With Greenland — But What If That Was Just the Warm-Up?The Main Event Is Alberta, the Perfect 51st State

I’ll be the first to admit it: I know virtually nothing about Greenland—like most Americans. But one thing I do know is this: President Donald Trump plays chess while most of Washington, D.C. plays checkers. So if Trump has determined that Greenland is vital to U.S. national security interests, I’m all in. And it appears…

And it appears he’s pulled it off.

Trump’s relentless, unapologetic pursuit of Greenland has already produced a framework for U.S. control or, at minimum, dramatically expanded access. At worst, America gains new military bases to secure our Arctic flank against Russia and China. At best, we establish long-term strategic dominance in a region every major power suddenly wants. Either way—bravo, Mr. President. Well played.

But Greenland should be the warm-up act, not the main event.

For years on TV and radio, I’ve argued that if America is ever going to add a new state, there’s only one that truly makes sense: Alberta.

And compared to Greenland, Alberta isn’t even in the same league.

Why Greenland Should Never Be the 51st State

Greenland may be strategically important—but it should never become a U.S. state.

First, a large percentage of Greenland’s population lives below the poverty line and has spent generations dependent on Denmark’s welfare-state model. That dependency doesn’t magically disappear with a new flag.

Second—and let’s be honest—adding Greenland as a state would almost certainly mean two new Democrat U.S. Senators, permanently shifting the balance of power in Washington.

In other words, Greenland would become another Puerto Rico.

Nearly half of Puerto Rico’s population relies on welfare. The highest welfare-dependency rate among current U.S. states—New Mexico—is about 20%. Making Puerto Rico a state would add massive federal obligations and two reliably Democrat senators. Greenland would likely do the same.

So yes—control Greenland. Base there. Protect America’s Arctic interests. But don’t make it a state.

Pro Three Bundle

Alberta: The Polar Opposite of Greenland

Now let’s talk about Alberta, because this is where things get interesting.

Alberta is everything Greenland is not.

Politically, Alberta is the most conservative province in Canada—the closest thing Canada has to MAGA country. Alberta is pro-energy, pro-freedom, and deeply skeptical of climate alarmism and carbon taxes. It is anti-regulation, anti-bureaucracy, and fiercely independent.

Albertans rebelled against Canada’s pandemic lockdowns, mask mandates, church closures, business shutdowns, and forced vaccinations.

These are our people.

Even better? Calgary’s welfare rate is just 4.1%. That’s not a typo. Low dependency, high productivity, strong work ethic—the American Dream, alive and well north of the border.

Resources, Resources, Resources

Then there’s the real prize: natural resources.

Alberta is loaded with oil, natural gas, gold, silver, diamonds, lumber, rare earths, and critical minerals. Pipelines running directly from Alberta into the United States would instantly make America the most energy-rich nation on Earth—by a mile.

Energy independence wouldn’t be a slogan. It would be a fact.

National Security: Alberta Matters as Much as Greenland

Here’s something most Americans don’t realize: Alberta is just as important to U.S. national security as Greenland.

NORAD facilities in Alberta are essential to continental defense. Alberta is also a gateway to the Arctic—the same Arctic Russia and China are racing to militarize.

From a defense standpoint, Alberta isn’t optional. It’s strategic gold.

The Timing Couldn’t Be Better

And now for the wild card: timing.

Right now, Alberta is in open revolt against Ottawa. Citizens are standing in hours-long lines—in sub-zero temperatures—to sign petitions demanding a referendum to leave Canada. Organizers need 177,000 signatures. They expect over one million.

This level of enthusiasm is unprecedented.

Alberta wants out.

So here’s the moment—the moment—for President Trump to think bigger.

Make the offer. Start the conversation. Alberta as America’s 51st state.

And yes, we’d almost certainly gain two Republican U.S. Senators in the process.

About That California Joke…

Do I really think we should trade California for Alberta?

I’m joking.

Mostly.

California may be the world’s fourth-largest economy, but it also delivers millions of Democrat votes, two Democrat senators, and dozens of Democrat House members—election after election. Losing California would mean Republicans never lose another presidential election and control Congress indefinitely.

Is that realistic? No.

Is it tempting? You bet.

Final Thought

Greenland was a brilliant strategic move. But it’s just the opening act.

If President Trump really wants to reshape America’s future—economically, politically, and strategically—there’s one move that beats all others:

Alberta.

Mr. President, after Greenland… aim for the main event.
