President Donald Trump has repeatedly called himself the “President of Peace,” promising Americans an end to endless wars and foreign entanglements. Yet as 2025 closes, U.S. military activity has reached levels unseen in years, with conflict monitors reporting more than 500 American airstrikes across multiple regions of the globe. The contradiction between rhetoric and reality is now creating unease even within Trump’s own political base.

Despite that commitment, data from Armed Conflict Location and Event Data (ACLED), an independent conflict monitor, indicates that the U.S. has carried out well over 500 bombings worldwide in 2025 alone. Those strikes span Iran, Yemen, Venezuela, Nigeria, Syria, Somalia, and other theaters.

Trump authorized major attacks on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, a sustained campaign against Houthi forces in Yemen, and repeated strikes against ISIS targets in Africa and the Middle East. On Christmas Day, U.S. aircraft hit ISIS-linked militants in Nigeria, with Trump citing their persecution of Christians. U.S. forces have also struck Venezuelan vessels tied to narcotics trafficking as part of escalating pressure on socialist strongman Nicolás Maduro.

Clionadh Raleigh, CEO of ACLED, bluntly assessed the pattern: “This administration is very pro-conflict.” She argues the “peace president” branding is largely public relations, noting that while Trump avoids large ground deployments, he is aggressively using airpower across unstable regions. “They’re saying, ‘We’ve got this military… we might as well use them.’”

Some strikes, particularly against the Houthis in Yemen, have produced measurable military effects. Others, such as the limited actions in Nigeria, have done little to stem broader sectarian violence.
