As Iran’s nationwide uprising enters its sixth day, President Donald Trump issued his strongest warning yet to Tehran, declaring the United States is “locked and loaded” and prepared to intervene if Iranian authorities continue killing peaceful demonstrators. The statement comes as at least seven people have now been reported dead, the currency collapses, and protests escalate into the largest internal threat the Islamic Republic has faced since 2022.
Trump Draws a Red Line
In a January 2 Truth Social post, Trump warned:
“If Iran shoots and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue. We are locked and loaded and ready to go.”
The comments followed days of escalating violence as security forces clashed with protesters demanding the overthrow of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Earlier this week, Trump also threatened to “knock the hell out of Iran” should the regime attempt to rebuild its weapons programs following U.S. and Israeli strikes in June that crippled Tehran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure.

Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, went further, claiming — without evidence — that the U.S. and Israel are orchestrating the unrest:
“Trump should know that intervention by the U.S. in domestic problems will bring chaos to the entire region and destroy U.S. interests.”

The protests were triggered by economic collapse, soaring inflation, unemployment, and the freefall of Iran’s currency after years of sanctions. Demonstrations have now spread through Tehran, Azna, Kouhdasht, and western provinces, with social media footage showing roads blocked, vehicles torched, and crowds chanting for the regime’s overthrow.
State media and rights groups confirm at least seven deaths, including one Basij paramilitary member. Local officials in western Iran warned gatherings would be met “decisively and without leniency,” signaling further bloodshed ahead.
