Governor Declares Disaster as Rivers Reach Flood Stage
Governor Greg Gianforte issued an executive order declaring a flooding disaster in northwestern Montana as the Fisher and Yaak Rivers rose rapidly. The Yaak River near Troy climbed roughly five feet above normal, exceeding flood stage, while the Fisher River near Libby rose nearly four feet and was forecast to reach minor flood stage.
“Continued rainfall across northwestern Montana has flooded some of our communities, including the town of Libby,” Gianforte said, authorizing the use of state funds to ensure resources are deployed quickly to protect residents and property.

Montana Disaster and Emergency Services warned residents to avoid flooded roadways and remain alert for rockslides and mudslides along steep terrain. Lincoln, Sanders, and Flathead Counties enacted emergency or disaster declarations as damage mounted to roads, bridges, and culverts.

The Montana Department of Environmental Quality issued a boil water advisory for Libby after floodwaters compromised the municipal water supply.
