Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has revealed what he calls “illegal activities” by the developers behind the controversial EPIC City — a planned Sharia-compliant settlement outside Dallas, which critics have dubbed “Sharia City.” Paxton has formally requested that the Texas State Securities Board (TSSB) review his office’s findings and refer the matter back so that legal action can be taken against the developers.

The findings reportedly show that certain individuals and organizations attempted to circumvent Texas law — including the state’s 2017 prohibition against implementing Sharia law in Texas.

What is EPIC City?
The EPIC City project envisions a massive Islamic community about 40 minutes from Dallas, featuring:

• A mega mosque
• Sharia-adherent schools
• A community college
• Residential housing for approximately 1,000 families
• Sports and recreational facilities

The project, backed by the EPIC-affiliated Community Capitol Partners, has drawn criticism from conservative leaders who argue it seeks to embed Sharia law structures in Texas, in defiance of state law.

Next Steps in the Legal Process
Paxton’s office has asked the TSSB, led by Chairman E. Wally Kinney and Commissioner Travis J. Iles, to examine the evidence and, if they agree, refer the matter back to the Attorney General’s Office to file a lawsuit. Until then, federal and state authorities are continuing to gather documentation and prepare potential legal action against the EPIC City developers.

Earlier this year, Governor Greg Abbott publicly launched a campaign against the planned Islamic mega-city. The U.S. Justice Department has also reportedly opened an investigation into the project, while Texas Senators and conservative commentators — including Mark Levin — have highlighted the legal and cultural implications of such settlements.
