In a move that stunned even seasoned Washington insiders, two Republican senators—Rand Paul (R-KY) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)—sided with Democrats to block President Donald Trump’s military campaign targeting cartel drug-smuggling vessels off the Venezuelan coast. The betrayal, which came during a heated Senate floor debate, resulted in a 51–48 vote rejecting a motion to preserve Trump’s ongoing anti-cartel operations.
