Washington, D.C., is under siege—not only from rising crime but also from left-wing dark money networks actively working to undermine law and order. Financial disclosures reveal that progressive megadonors, including George Soros, poured more than $20 million into organizations supporting protests against President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard and his efforts to federalize the District’s police force.
The Dark-Money Network Behind the Chaos
At the center of this operation is Free DC, a project sponsored by Community Change and Community Change Action. The group staged highly visible demonstrations near the White House to oppose Trump’s crackdown on crime. While the president’s mission is simple—restore public safety by cleaning up homeless encampments, bolstering law enforcement presence, and making D.C. one of the safest cities in the nation—Free DC and its financial backers have mobilized to resist these measures, using protests and social campaigns designed to erode public confidence.
Free DC promotes radical tactics under the guise of “resistance,” instructing followers to:
- “Take up space” in neighborhoods
- “Do not obey in advance” of laws
- Engage in nightly disruptions, banging pots and pans to create chaos
The group has even conducted “Cop Watch” trainings to prepare activists for confrontations with law enforcement—methods mirroring the classic playbook of radical left-wing organizers, designed to generate disorder rather than solutions.
The Money Trail: Soros and Friends
Financial records reveal the depth of left-wing influence. Between 2020 and 2023, Community Change and affiliated entities received:
- $12.6 million from Soros’ Open Society Foundations
- $5.6 million from Arabella’s network
- Nearly $2 million from the Tides Foundation
Additional millions flowed from Future Forward USA Action—a Democrat-aligned super PAC—funding Free DC’s activities. Officially, the money was labeled for “civil rights” or “social welfare,” but the reality is clear: these funds have been funneled into groups intentionally manufacturing unrest in the streets.
Foreign Influence and Radical Tactics
Free DC formally launched in 2023, coinciding with congressional efforts to block a controversial rewrite of D.C.’s criminal code that would have imposed stricter penalties for violent offenses. This timing is telling: dark-money donors viewed the organization as a vehicle to shield criminals and prevent accountability.
Even more alarming, foreign billionaire Christopher Hohn—who has spent over $500 million on extremist Antifa-linked radical groups—has funneled resources into networks connected to the Chinese Communist Party, supporting efforts that directly undermine American sovereignty.
The results of these radical strategies are visible across D.C.: rampant shootings, carjackings, and assaults persist, while activist groups shield offenders and attack those enforcing the law.
Trump’s America First Approach
President Trump’s strategy stands in stark contrast. Deploying law enforcement to restore order and protect families is diametrically opposed to the left’s plan, which funnels millions into protests designed to preserve a soft-on-crime agenda.
The stakes are not just the safety of D.C. residents. The battle exposes a deeper threat: whether foreign-funded networks and progressive megadonors can dictate urban policy across America—effectively using taxpayer money and radical activism to manipulate local governance and subvert law and order.
