A mysterious interstellar visitor known as 3I/ATLAS has ignited global fascination and controversy after new NASA rover images appeared to show a massive cylindrical object passing close to Mars. While officials label it a comet, seasoned scientists and independent researchers warn that its form, color, and timing suggest something far more extraordinary — perhaps even artificial.
The event unfolded on October 3, 2025, when 3I/ATLAS passed within 18 million miles of Mars. NASA’s Perseverance rover captured high-resolution photos of the object streaking through space, showing a striking green glow and elongated cylindrical shape. Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb, who has gained worldwide attention for his studies on interstellar anomalies, analyzed the images and cautioned that the “cylindrical appearance” might be an optical illusion caused by image stacking. “The rover’s camera combined hundreds of frames over about 10 minutes, stretching the object’s shape into what looks like a log,” Loeb said. Even so, he acknowledged that 3I/ATLAS is massive — potentially more than 28 miles across.
Loeb, who previously argued that 2017’s ‘Oumuamua may have been an alien probe, noted that data from the HiRISE camera aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter could soon confirm whether this new object truly defies natural classification. A Veteran Scientist Says It’s Not a Comet
Retired CSIRO researcher Dr. Horace Drew, a Caltech-trained chemist known for his investigations into unexplained aerial phenomena, offered a very different conclusion. “It is not a comet,” Drew declared. He pointed to the green metallic glow as evidence of nickel plating, similar to materials used on engineered spacecraft.
“An amateur astronomer on Earth captured the same elongated white form with a green coma around it — not a small ball, but a cylinder,” Drew explained in a post on X. “That confirms what the Mars cameras saw. It’s a side view of an engineered object.”
Drew believes the color signature matches the chemical properties of nickel and chromium-based alloys, frequently used in high-temperature aerospace applications. “Humans use these coatings on reentry vehicles and satellite hulls. Whoever built this, if it is artificial, uses the same technology — but on an interstellar scale.”
Global Silence and a Suspicious Shutdown
The European Space Agency (ESA) confirmed that its Mars Express and ExoMars orbiters also tracked 3I/ATLAS, but said data analysis “could take weeks.” China, usually eager to display scientific triumphs, has remained entirely silent. NASA, meanwhile, has issued no official statement — responding only with an automated notice citing its closure due to the federal shutdown.
That silence has only fueled speculation. “NASA’s shutdown is suspicious,” one viral post read. “The ESA’s delay is strange. But China’s silence, when they have every reason to show off, is the sign something’s happening behind closed doors.”
The situation echoes 2017, when ‘Oumuamua passed through the solar system and governments quietly halted discussion after data showed its acceleration was inconsistent with natural forces. If 3I/ATLAS follows that pattern — artificial acceleration, unexplained brightness, or intelligent trajectory — it may force the first public acknowledgment that we are not alone.
