President Donald Trump’s bold attempt to broker a ceasefire in Gaza and secure the release of Israeli hostages is already running into Hamas rejection. A senior Hamas official told the BBC that the terror group is “likely” to turn down the plan, claiming it “serves Israel’s interests” and fails to meet “the needs of the Palestinian people.”

Hamas Rejects Disarmament and Stabilization Force
At the heart of the proposal, announced Monday by Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are two non-negotiable requirements: Hamas must disarm, and an international stabilization force must oversee Gaza’s transition after hostilities end. But the Hamas official said the group will not lay down its weapons nor accept foreign troops in Gaza. This would effectively doom the plan unless pressure from Arab states forces Hamas’ hand.

Qatar and Egypt have been serving as intermediaries, delivering Trump’s plan to Hamas negotiators. Qatar’s foreign ministry confirmed Tuesday that Hamas has pledged to “review it responsibly,” but signs point to rejection.

Trump’s Warning: ‘One Signature Will Pay in Hell’
Trump, who framed the deal as “a chance for greatness in the Middle East,” has given Hamas a four-day deadline to respond. Speaking at Quantico, Virginia, before military leaders, he issued a stern ultimatum: “We have one signature that we need, and that signature will pay in hell if they don’t sign.”

The plan includes a full cessation of Israeli military activity, a freeze on battle lines, and an eventual Israeli withdrawal if Gaza is demilitarized. In exchange, Hamas would be required to release all remaining hostages, living and dead, within 72 hours. Israel, for its part, would free 250 Palestinians serving life sentences and another 1,700 detained after Hamas’ October 7 attack.

Netanyahu: A Modest Withdrawal for Demilitarization
Netanyahu described the deal as “a modest withdrawal” contingent on Hamas’ compliance. Israeli leaders remain wary, recalling previous failed negotiations where Hamas rejected peace initiatives at the final stage. Still, the Israeli government has signaled cautious optimism, encouraged by global momentum behind Trump’s proposal.

Broad Arab Support—Except Hamas
Remarkably, Trump’s plan has garnered support from the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and multiple Arab governments, who see the plan as a pathway to reconstruction in Gaza and regional stability. Yet Hamas stands nearly alone in opposing it—underscoring its true role as an obstacle to peace, rather than a voice for the Palestinian people.

Prophetic and Geopolitical Implications
Hamas’ likely rejection of the deal highlights a larger truth: peace in the Middle East will never come through appeasing terror. Prophecy warns that false peace will be pursued, only to be broken by those bent on violence (Daniel 9:27). While the world rallies around Trump’s unprecedented initiative, Hamas clings to its jihadist vision of “steadfastness” and refuses to surrender weapons that are the backbone of its terror empire.

The timing is critical. With Europe fractured over Gaza, the UN pressing for a ceasefire, and Arab states moving toward normalization with Israel, Hamas’ defiance threatens not only to prolong the war but to accelerate prophetic divides that Scripture foretells will shape the last days.

Conclusion
Trump has delivered the most comprehensive peace framework yet for Gaza, backed by Israel, the Palestinian Authority, and key Arab states. But Hamas, true to its charter, seems set on rejection. Should that happen, Trump has made clear the alternative: Israel will have the green light to resume the war with full force.

And as Hamas calculates its next move, one thing is certain—the eyes of the world, and of prophecy, are fixed on Gaza.
