In a bold declaration of faith and geopolitics, more than 200 Evangelical leaders have issued an urgent plea to President Donald Trump: defend Israel’s sovereignty over Judea and Samaria, the biblical heartland that much of the world calls the West Bank. The open letter, released just ahead of Trump’s White House meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, frames the issue not as mere policy but as a matter of divine covenant, history, and prophetic destiny.
A Faith-Fueled Appeal
The letter, organized by the Family Research Council, carried the unmistakable tone of biblical conviction. Titled Standing with the Biblical Heart of Israel, it condemned international pressures—including from U.S. allies—that seek to force Israel into concessions. “Restricting or discouraging Israel’s right to exercise sovereignty over the biblical heartland will not bring peace,” the leaders wrote. “It will only prolong conflict and increase threats, not only to the Jewish people but also to Palestinians who genuinely desire peace.”
The signatories argued that U.S. policy must resist the “death of a thousand cuts” aimed at dismantling Israel’s claim to the land promised by God. “America must not be a party to undermining what God has established and will continue to establish,” the letter declared.
Annexation Debate Intensifies
The timing is pivotal. Netanyahu’s coalition partners have been pressing for annexation of Judea and Samaria in response to recent recognitions of a Palestinian state by the UK, Canada, Australia, and France—moves condemned by Trump as rewarding terrorism. Yet the president has also publicly ruled out annexation. Speaking last week, he stated flatly: “I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. That’s enough. It’s time to stop now.”
This sets the stage for a high-stakes clash: Netanyahu under pressure from within his government, Trump under pressure from his Evangelical base.
Prominent Christian Voices Speak Out
The letter bore the signatures of some of America’s most influential Christian leaders: Pastor Gary Hamrick of Cornerstone Chapel, Pastor Jack Hibbs of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, former congresswoman Michele Bachmann, conservative commentator Eric Metaxas, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, Liberty Counsel Chairman Mat Staver, and Dumisani Washington of the Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel.
Their message was direct: “Sovereignty over this land is Israel’s God-given right, and for the sake of justice and lasting peace, it must be recognized.”
Prophecy Meets Policy
For Evangelicals, Judea and Samaria are not simply disputed territories but the very soil where Abraham walked, David tended sheep, and prophets thundered God’s Word. As Susan Michael of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem reminded critics, the biblical names “Judea and Samaria” predate the modern political label “West Bank,” which described only 19 years of Jordanian occupation.
Luke Moon of The Philos Project added: “The only people who believe Judea and Samaria to be fictional names are the ones who’ve never opened the Book they claim to believe in.”
The Prophetic Divide
The debate comes against the backdrop of ongoing fallout from Hamas’s brutal October 7, 2023, massacre of Israeli civilians, which claimed 1,200 lives and left hostages still in captivity. Trump used his United Nations address last week to slam premature statehood recognitions, calling them a reward for terror.
In this sense, Evangelical leaders see the moment as more than a diplomatic dispute. It is a test of whether America will align itself with God’s covenant or side with the globalist consensus pushing Israel into retreat. “History will remember you as the leader who chose to stand with God’s covenant and with His people, Israel,” the letter urged Trump.
A Prophetic Line in the Sand
This episode underscores the deeper division now running through international politics: the globalist elite pressing for a two-state solution at any cost, versus a faith-driven movement insisting that Israel’s sovereignty is rooted not only in history but in prophecy. Evangelical leaders are warning that America’s stance in this hour will determine both its moral credibility and its prophetic destiny.
