President Donald Trump is hammering former FBI Director Christopher Wray after a bombshell revelation that the Bureau embedded 274 plainclothes agents inside the January 6th crowd — a direct contradiction of years of FBI denials and Department of Justice reports.
The FBI’s 274-Agent Admission Blows Up the Narrative
For years, Americans were told the events of January 6th amounted to an “insurrection” orchestrated by Trump supporters. Now, the truth is coming out: the FBI had hundreds of its own personnel embedded within the protest crowds. The Blaze first broke the story, citing senior congressional sources, even as the Bureau tried to downplay the scope by calling it “countersurveillance.”
This revelation directly conflicts with the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Inspector General’s December 2024 report, which claimed, “We found no evidence … suggesting that the FBI had undercover employees in the various protest crowds, or at the Capitol, on January 6.”
Former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund revealed he was never informed that hundreds of FBI agents had been deployed in the crowd — a breach of protocol that left Capitol security leadership blind.
Years of Lies, Informants, and Infiltration
Court filings have already exposed dozens of undercover operatives: at least 40 inside the Proud Boys, multiple inside the Oath Keepers, and FBI informants embedded throughout pro-Trump groups. In November 2022, the FBI confessed to eight informants inside the Proud Boys — just before their D.C. “show trials.”
Back in July 2023, Chris Wray testified before Congress, telling Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) he did “not believe” there were undercover FBI agents on or around the Capitol that day. Now, that statement has been exposed as a lie.
Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) had previously entered testimony from eyewitness Michael Waller describing “agents-provocateurs” operating in the crowd — testimony dismissed at the time as conspiracy theory.
Trump’s Fiery Truth Social Post
On Saturday, President Trump tore into Wray over the revelations, posting on Truth Social:
“It was just revealed that the FBI had secretly placed, against all Rules, Regulations, Protocols, and Standards, 274 FBI Agents into the Crowd just prior to, and during, the January 6th Hoax.
This is different from what Director Christopher Wray stated, over and over again! … FBI Agents were at, and in, the January 6th Protest, probably acting as Agitators and Insurrectionists, but certainly not as ‘Law Enforcement Officials.’
I want to know who each and every one of these so-called ‘Agents’ are, and what they were up to on that now ‘Historic’ Day. Many Great American Patriots were made to pay a very big price only for the love of their Country.
Christopher Wray … has some major explaining to do. That’s two in a row, Comey and Wray, who got caught LYING, with our Great Country at stake. WE CAN NEVER LET THIS HAPPEN TO AMERICA AGAIN!”

Trump’s post underscored a long pattern: two successive FBI directors, James Comey and Christopher Wray, both accused of deceiving the American public while the Bureau was weaponized against political opponents.
For many Americans, the Jan. 6 revelations validate what they suspected all along — that federal operatives weren’t just monitoring events but were actively shaping them. If true, this shatters the official narrative, raises questions about entrapment, and demands congressional investigation.
Why This Matters
Hundreds of Americans — many nonviolent — have been prosecuted, imprisoned, and bankrupted over January 6th. If federal agencies deployed nearly 300 agents into those crowds, Congress and the public have a right to know who they were and what they did.
Trump’s fiery demand for transparency signals that the battle over Jan. 6 is far from over — and that accountability for the FBI’s actions is now squarely on the table.
