In response to reports of Zarutska’s stabbing death at the hands of repeat offender Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, BLM posted on Instagram:

“We have a right to violence. All oppressed people have a right to violence. And I’m going to tell you something. It’s like the right to pee. You gotta have the right place, you gotta have the right time, you gotta have the appropriate situation. And I’m absolutely convinced that this is it.”

The grotesque comparison — likening violence to relieving oneself — left many Americans stunned. Instead of mourning a murdered woman, BLM appeared to excuse the act as part of a broader struggle.

Legal and Public Backlash

Legal experts immediately condemned the statement. Even if couched as “rhetoric,” the message to millions of followers is clear: violence is acceptable, even righteous, if framed as resistance. In a nation already on edge, such words can ignite further bloodshed.

Independent journalist Tim Poole blasted the group: “These people are violent dangerous racists. It’s not inspiring justice—it’s telling people it’s okay to be violent.” Social media users echoed the sentiment, calling the statement reckless and inflammatory.

Meanwhile, BLM has offered no clarification or apology, doubling down by its silence.

While ordinary Americans expressed shock and grief, much of the liberal media either ignored the post or attempted to reframe it as “expressing frustration” rather than condoning violence.
