Loeb argues that if the object — or fragments of it — were to impact Mars in October, it could serve as a “potential signature of technology.” In other words, evidence of intelligent intent. Even more unsettling, Loeb suggested that smaller “precursor objects” could already be en route, invisible to Earth-based telescopes but detectable by probes orbiting Mars.
