Venezuela is on high alert as President Nicolás Maduro claims the United States is seeking regime change through military threat, even as the Trump administration deploys naval forces to the Caribbean. While Washington insists the move targets drug cartels, Caracas calls it the most serious threat to the nation in a century of Latin American history.

Maduro Sounds the Alarm
Addressing journalists, military officials, and government representatives in Caracas, Maduro warned that Venezuela faces an unprecedented crisis.

“They are seeking a regime change through military threat,” Maduro said. “Venezuela is confronting the biggest threat that has been seen on our continent in the last 100 years. A situation like this has never been seen.”

Despite the looming threat, Maduro claims the nation is super-prepared to resist foreign intervention.

US Frames Naval Deployment as Anti-Cartel Operation
The Trump administration says the Caribbean naval buildup is aimed at disrupting drug cartel operations and defending the United States from criminal networks. Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell emphasized the danger posed by these cartels:

“These cartels have engaged in historic violence and terror throughout our hemisphere—and around the globe—that has destabilized economies and internal security, while flooding the United States with deadly drugs, violent criminals, and vicious gangs.”

The Pentagon stresses this is a coordinated, whole-of-government effort, working with regional partners to protect American lives and dismantle criminal networks.

Trump Targets Maduro Directly
The administration has accused Maduro of drug trafficking and corruption, offering a $50 million reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction. The naval buildup signals that the US is ready to escalate pressure on the Venezuelan regime if necessary.
