On Wednesday morning, horror once again descended on America’s children. A transgender gunman opened fire on Annunciation Catholic Grade School in Minneapolis, blasting through church windows as students attended Mass during their very first week of school.
The gunman, identified as Robert “Robin” Westman, left a chilling manifesto posted on YouTube prior to the massacre, scrawled “Kill Donald Trump” on one of his firearms, and carried out a rampage that left two children dead and over a dozen more injured before taking his own life.
Catholic Leaders Begged for Security Two Years Ago
Even more disturbing than the shooting itself is the fact that it might have been prevented. According to The Daily Wire’s Mary Margaret Olohan, Catholic and independent school leaders in Minnesota sounded the alarm two years ago, warning Governor Tim Walz of the urgent need for school security.
In a letter dated April 14, 2023, Tim Benz, president of MINNDEPENDENT, and Jason Adkins, executive director of the Minnesota Catholic Conference, pleaded with Walz to provide funding for safety measures at nonpublic schools. They stressed the “urgent and critical need in Minnesota to make sure our schools are secure and safe” given the “recent, and continuing attacks on our schools in this country and in our state.”
Jason Adkins confirmed to The Daily Wire that their pleas fell on deaf ears. No additional funding was ever provided.
Walz’s Priorities: Trans Sanctuary Over Child Safety
Instead of securing classrooms and protecting children, Governor Walz devoted his political capital to declaring Minnesota a so-called “trans sanctuary state”—ensuring that gender-confused minors could obtain puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and irreversible surgeries even if their parents in other states opposed it.
In other words, protecting ideology was more important than protecting innocent kids in Catholic schools. While Catholic leaders begged for help to prevent the very kind of massacre that unfolded this week, Walz prioritized enabling the transgender movement—policies that, ironically, emboldened the very community from which this shooter emerged.
The Prophetic and Political Dimensions
This is more than just another example of government negligence—it is prophetic. Isaiah warned of a time when leaders would “call evil good, and good evil” (Isaiah 5:20). In Minnesota, the governor embraced lawlessness under the guise of compassion, while turning his back on the pleas of those tasked with shepherding the next generation.
At the same time, America is seeing a disturbing pattern of transgender shooters targeting schools and churches, with the Minneapolis Catholic School massacre being only the latest in a string of tragedies. The agenda behind this chaos is clear: destabilize communities, attack Christian institutions, and replace faith with ideology.
The blood of those children cries out from the ground, not only against the deranged shooter, but against leaders who ignored repeated warnings in favor of social engineering. Governor Walz had a choice: protect schools or push ideology. He chose ideology—and innocent lives were lost.
