In the Democrat Party’s war on Donald Trump, a shocking number of Black prosecutors, judges, and committee chairs were treated the same way—thrust into the public spotlight to fight a partisan battle they were never meant to survive.

Letitia James. Alvin Bragg. Fani Willis. Tanya Chutkan. Bennie Thompson. Each became the visible face of the Democrats’ relentless effort to “get Trump.” Behind the spectacle, party strategists were calculating: high-profile Black officials could sway liberal jurors, maintain the party’s anti-Trump narrative, and if the cases collapsed, the media would spin the backlash as “racism.”

The Strategy Behind the Sacrifice
Every prosecution—whether for campaign finance, RICO, election interference, or civil fraud—was designed to create headlines and bury Trump’s policy arguments. Each indictment acted as a trial balloon for novel legal theories, often shaky at best. Yet Democrats pressed forward, seemingly indifferent to the personal and professional fallout their prosecutors would face.

Letitia James: New York’s Attorney General launched a civil fraud case against Trump, alleging decades of asset overvaluation. In August 2025, a court overturned her $500 million fine as excessive under the Eighth Amendment. Following years of reporting exposing James’s own mortgage fraud, she now faces investigation by Special Prosecutor Ed Martin and possible jail time.

Fani Willis: Fulton County’s D.A. spearheaded the Georgia racketeering and election interference case under RICO. By December 2024, she and her office were disqualified due to conflicts with special prosecutor Nathan Wade and faced thousands in attorney fees over Open Records Act violations.

Alvin Bragg: The Manhattan D.A. made history indicting a former president on 34 counts of falsifying business records. Yet his case was widely criticized as legally tenuous and politically motivated. Bragg’s office suffered internal resignations, and his reputation lies in tatters.

Bennie Thompson: Chair of the January 6th Committee, he helped shape Democrats’ anti-Trump narrative. But the committee destroyed critical records, leaving questions about accountability. Though pardoned by Biden, Thompson’s credibility remains vulnerable.

Tanya Chutkan: Federal judge over Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, Chutkan endured immense scrutiny, political attacks, and personal threats. She became a lightning rod in the Democrats’ legal offensive.

The Fallout
Democrat leaders miscalculated. They believed they could use racial politics and DEI optics to their advantage, assuming the prosecutors would be disposable but politically effective. Instead, the prosecutions backfired: James, Bragg, and Willis are disgraced, disqualified, or under investigation. Their legacies are tarnished, and the Democrats’ cynical strategy has likely poisoned opportunities for Black prosecutors nationwide for years to come.

The lawfare campaign against Trump was never about justice. It was about power. James, Bragg, Willis, Chutkan, and Thompson were pawns in a partisan war, elevated and exposed for political gain, and discarded when the strategy failed. History will not remember them as champions of justice—it will remember them as casualties of a party that valued destroying Trump over protecting its own Black leaders.
