President Donald Trump ignited a firestorm on Monday after signing an executive order targeting the burning of the American flag, declaring that the symbol of the United States must be defended against desecration. The move, predictably, triggered outrage among his critics but also stirred debate among some of his supporters, who questioned the constitutional implications.

Across the Atlantic, a similar battle over flags is unfolding. In the United Kingdom, patriots are rallying around the Union Jack and the St. George’s Cross, reclaiming their national symbols as a stand against mass illegal immigration and the cultural erosion pushed by leftist city councils.

Trump’s Order: Not What the Media Claims
Canadian broadcaster Ezra Levant, analyzing the issue on The Ezra Levant Show, said mainstream media deliberately twisted the facts of Trump’s executive order. Contrary to the headlines, the president’s order is not a blanket prohibition on flag burning by Americans.

Instead, it specifically targets situations where flag burning is connected to violence, discrimination, or foreign agitators who desecrate the U.S. flag while on American soil. In such cases, the administration has made clear that these individuals may be deported or prosecuted under existing statutes.

“This isn’t about stripping free speech from Americans,” Levant explained. “This is about foreigners burning the U.S. flag. It’s about sending them home.”

The executive order fits Trump’s broader America First agenda, framing the flag as a non-negotiable national emblem, particularly against those who openly despise the country while enjoying its freedoms.

British Patriots Reclaim Their Symbols
Meanwhile, in the U.K., grassroots activists have turned the Union Jack and St. George’s Cross into rallying points for national pride. Across England, flags are being flown from homes, painted on roundabouts, and even emblazoned on manhole covers as ordinary citizens reclaim their heritage.

But the effort has not come without resistance. Left-wing councils in multiple cities have threatened to remove the flags, branding them “offensive” or “divisive.” This hypocrisy, Levant noted, is glaring—since many of the same councils have approved the display of Palestinian flags on public buildings in recent months.

“Symbols have meanings, words have meanings, flags have meanings,” Levant said. “British patriots are reclaiming their flags and their meanings—and with it, their history and their culture.”
