President Donald J. Trump on Friday weighed in on the FBI raid of former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s Maryland home and Washington, D.C., office, calling Bolton a “sleazebag” and highlighting the hypocrisy of the Biden-era FBI. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump compared the raid to his own experience during the Mar-a-Lago search, where he says agents went through everything, including First Lady Melania Trump’s personal drawers.

Bolton’s Raid: The Facts
Early Friday morning, FBI agents reportedly stormed Bolton’s Bethesda, Maryland, home, and later his DC office, seeking classified documents. The investigation is reportedly connected to a prior probe of classified materials that was allegedly shut down under the Biden administration.

Trump told reporters he had no advance notice of the raid but had seen it unfold in the media. “I haven’t spoken to Pam Bondi yet,” he said, referencing the team leading the investigation. “I purposely try to stay out of this stuff.”

Bolton Called a “Sleazebag”
Trump didn’t hold back in labeling Bolton, saying, “I’m not a fan of John Bolton. I thought he was a sleazebag, actually, and he suffers major Trump Derangement Syndrome. And so do a lot of people, and they’re not being affected by anything we do.”

He added a pointed backhanded compliment, noting Bolton’s recklessness during international negotiations. “He’s not a smart guy, could be a very unpatriotic guy, but we’re going to find out,” Trump said.

Trump Compares Bolton Raid to Mar-a-Lago Search
Turning personal, Trump drew a sharp contrast between the FBI’s treatment of Bolton and the prior raid on his own Mar-a-Lago residence under the Biden DOJ. “But my house was raided, also. It’s called Mar-a-Lago. They went through everything they could, including my young son’s room and my wife’s area,” Trump said.

“They went through her drawers, as the expression goes. They went through everything you could imagine,” he added, noting that Melania Trump returned to find her meticulously organized spaces disrupted. “She looked and she said, ‘woah.’ This wasn’t the way she had it, so I know the feeling. It’s not a good feeling.”

Trump Stresses He’s Staying Out of the Investigation
While Trump criticized Bolton and referenced his own experience, he emphasized that he is deliberately staying out of the ongoing investigation. “I haven’t spoken to Pam and the group yet, but I will be. I saw that just like everybody else. I try to stay out of this stuff. I’m allowed to be, and I’m chief law enforcement officer, believe it or not, but I purposely don’t want to really get involved in it,” he said.
