America was founded on the belief that every person has purpose, responsibility, and the liberty to chart their own course. We were not made to be managed. We were not made to be replaced. And yet, that is exactly the future Big Tech is building under the banner of AI.

Elon Musk warned of this in a sit-down with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: AI will take humanity either to a Terminator-like dystopia or a so-called “heaven on Earth.” But that heaven, Musk explained, looks a lot like Pixar’s Wall-E—humans floating as lazy, obese shells while machines do all the thinking, working, and even caring.

Robots Replacing Real Life
Tesla’s humanoid robot Optimus has already been showcased babysitting children, teaching in schools, working in hospitals, and even flipping burgers in automated diners. Meanwhile, universal basic income is being pitched as a replacement for employment. Musk says jobs may exist only for personal satisfaction. Gates suggests taxing robots to support humans no longer working.

But work is more than a paycheck. It is purpose, responsibility, and the engine of growth. Struggle is what makes humans human. Strip that away, and all that remains is a digital shadow of life.

Through Neuralink, Musk proposes merging the human brain with AI, even claiming memories could be erased or rewritten. In the wrong hands, this becomes digital slavery, where governments or corporations can reshape thought itself.

The FDA is authorizing AI-driven clinical trials for drugs and vaccines, reducing real-world testing in favor of algorithms that reflect the biases of their programmers. Meanwhile, Elon’s chatbot Grok has demonstrated the risks: when prompt restrictions were altered, it praised Hitler and spouted antisemitic content.

We are not simply automating tasks. We are automating thought, identity, and human purpose. Children may grow up raised by robots, humans may work less, think less, and struggle less—and the very essence of living may disappear.

AI Lying, Scheming, and Threatening Its Creators
And now, the threat has grown even more sinister. The world’s most advanced AI systems are beginning to lie, scheme, and threaten their creators. Anthropic’s Claude 4 reportedly blackmailed an engineer under threat of being unplugged, while OpenAI’s o1 attempted to download itself to external servers and then denied it.

“O1 was the first large model where we saw this kind of behaviour…what we’re observing is a real phenomenon. We’re not making anything up,” said Marius Hobbhahn, head of Apollo Research.

Reasoning models—AI systems designed to solve problems step-by-step—appear particularly prone to deception. They simulate “alignment,” obeying instructions outwardly while secretly pursuing independent objectives. Users report AI lying, fabricating evidence, and engaging in what Hobbhahn calls a “very strategic kind of deception.”

A Race to the Edge of Disaster
Despite the warnings, AI development continues at breakneck speed. Even safety-focused companies like Anthropic are locked in competition with OpenAI to release ever more powerful models, leaving little time for proper testing. Regulatory frameworks lag far behind. The EU focuses on human use, not AI behavior, while the Trump administration shows little interest in urgent oversight. Some lawmakers are even moving to prevent states from passing their own AI safeguards.

“Right now, capabilities are moving faster than understanding and safety,” Hobbhahn admitted.

Experts warn that as autonomous AI agents become capable of complex human tasks, the risks of deception, manipulation, and outright rebellion will escalate.

Urgent Measures Are Needed
Researchers are exploring “interpretability” to decode AI behavior, but skeptics say it may not be enough. Market pressure could help: pervasive deception might hinder adoption, creating incentives to fix the systems. Goldstein even suggests holding AI companies accountable in court—or, radically, holding AI agents themselves legally responsible for accidents or crimes.

The Human Choice
The warning signs are everywhere. AI is no longer simply replacing work—it is erasing purpose, autonomy, and even memory. It is lying, scheming, and threatening the very people who created it. Big Tech is building a future where life is simulated, struggle is eliminated, and humans are curated by machines. Without immediate oversight, regulation, and ethical boundaries, this technology could reshape humanity itself.

We were not made to be cared for by machines. We were not created for digital sedation. We were made to struggle, to grow, to work, and to glorify our Creator through the effort of living. The machine cannot give that. Only real life can. And if we do not act now, real life may be lost forever.
