President Donald J. Trump has summoned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House after his surprise three-hour summit with Vladimir Putin in Alaska. The high-stakes meeting, which bypassed NATO and EU bureaucrats, produced no ceasefire—but reportedly broached a “land swap” proposal that has left European security experts in shock.
Trump declared the summit “great and very successful,” insisting that the best path forward is not another fragile ceasefire, but a full and lasting peace agreement. Speaking to Sean Hannity, he was blunt: “Russia is a very big power, and they’re not. Gotta make a deal.”
Land for Peace?
Leaks from the Anchorage meeting suggest Putin demanded Ukraine withdraw from the Donetsk region—70% of which is already under Russian control—in exchange for halting further expansion. In return, Trump floated NATO-like security guarantees for Kyiv, an “Article 5-type” promise without formal NATO membership.
Diplomatic insiders confirmed the concept was discussed, though no one can explain why Putin would accept guarantees that run counter to his decades-long opposition to NATO’s encroachment. Still, Trump argued Ukraine must take the deal to end a war that has already claimed over a million casualties.
Zelensky, who has repeatedly rejected ceding territory, will now face Trump in Washington. Trump has hinted that if Kyiv agrees, a follow-up trilateral meeting with Putin could take place—potentially even in Moscow.
Europe Reacts: ‘Clear Win for Putin’
Reaction from Europe was swift and critical. Wolfgang Ischinger, former German ambassador to the U.S., branded the talks “deeply disturbing,” calling the result “a clear 1-0 for Putin.” NATO leaders warned that any land-for-peace deal rewards aggression and fractures Western unity.
Cold War historian Sergey Radchenko agreed Putin walked away with more than he gave: “He basically won this round because he got something for nothing.” Yet, he added, Trump did not outright sell out Ukraine, leaving room for Kyiv to resist.
Putin’s Red Carpet Victory
For Putin, the optics alone were a triumph. After years of sanctions and isolation, the Russian leader sat across from an American president on equal terms—discussing Ukraine’s fate without NATO at the table. “We expect Kyiv and the European capitals will not attempt to disrupt the emerging progress,” Putin warned afterward, a clear signal to Brussels.
Prophecy and Power Politics
The prophetic undertones cannot be ignored. Scripture warns of days when men will cry “peace and safety” only for sudden destruction to follow (1 Thessalonians 5:3). Trump’s bold diplomacy may deliver a temporary reprieve, but Putin’s demand for Ukrainian territory echoes the territorial conflicts prophesied in Ezekiel 38–39—setting the stage for the Gog-Magog alignment in the last days.
The Bottom Line
Trump’s Alaska summit has upended the war calculus. By dragging Zelensky to Washington, he has forced Kyiv to confront a painful truth: Russia is bigger, stronger, and not going away. Whether Ukraine bends or resists, Europe seethes, and globalists panic at the prospect of Trump breaking their war machine.
One thing is certain: this is no longer just about Ukraine. It’s about who controls the peace—and whether prophecy is unfolding before our eyes.
