A fiery disaster erupted Monday afternoon when a single-engine TBM 700 lost control on landing at Kalispell City Airport in Montana, slamming into several parked aircraft before bursting into flames. The crash, which happened around 2 p.m., sent a towering plume of black smoke over the small city-owned airfield and ignited multiple planes along with a nearby grassy area.
Four Onboard, No Fatalities — But a Close Call
Authorities confirmed that all four people aboard the plane survived. Two passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated at the airport. No one was on the stationary aircraft that were destroyed in the fire. Kalispell Police Chief Jordan Venezio and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) credited rapid emergency response with preventing loss of life.
Flight from Washington Ends in Disaster
FAA registration records show the TBM 700 was built in 2011 and registered to Meter Sky of Pullman, Washington. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed the flight originated from Pullman and said investigators will now examine the wreckage, maintenance history, and other evidence to determine why the pilot lost control during landing.
Eyewitnesses Describe the Blast
Ron Danielson, who manages a nearby inn, likened the impact to “sticking your head in a bass drum and somebody smacking it as hard as they could.” The explosion set multiple aircraft ablaze before fire crews doused the flames.
Airfield Safety Concerns
The accident has renewed concerns over safety protocols at small, city-owned airports and the potential for catastrophic ground collisions. Federal investigators will look into whether mechanical failure, pilot error, weather, or other factors caused the crash. Kalispell City Airport remains closed as officials assess damage to runways, hangars, and parked aircraft.
Prophetic Parallels and Broader Concerns
While this was a local incident, it mirrors a troubling global trend of transportation mishaps — many involving advanced technology or human error — that could have cascading effects. In a world already on edge from wars, rumors of wars, and rising instability, even regional accidents are reminders of how fragile safety and infrastructure truly are.
