Texas Democrats Flee to Illinois, But the Lone Star State Fights Back

In a bold stand for constitutional order and legislative duty, Texas lawmakers voted 85-6 on Monday to approve a motion issuing arrest warrants for House Democrats who fled the state in an attempt to block Republican-backed redistricting legislation.
The lawmakers — nearly all Democrats — abandoned the Texas Capitol last week and fled to Illinois, seeking to sabotage a GOP-led special session. The move paralyzed critical votes on property tax cuts, flood relief, and infrastructure bills needed by everyday Texans.
Governor Greg Abbott responded with unflinching resolve.
“I ordered Texas DPS to arrest and return every derelict House Democrat to the Texas Capitol,” Abbott declared.

If the Texas Department of Public Safety executes Abbott’s order, fugitive Democrats could soon find themselves escorted back to the House floor in handcuffs — and not for show.
