Democrats Defy Constitution, Abbott and Paxton Respond With Iron Resolve
By The Blogging Hounds
As the showdown in Texas intensifies, Attorney General Ken Paxton has stepped into the fight with both barrels blazing, issuing a scathing rebuke of rogue Democrat lawmakers who fled the state to sabotage redistricting efforts and grind the legislature to a halt.
“Their actions are not only shameful — they’re unconstitutional,” Paxton declared. “And the law will not be mocked.”
More than 50 Democrat representatives fled Texas in a coordinated stunt to block the Republican-led special session, derailing not just redistricting legislation but also critical bills addressing border security, property tax cuts, and disaster relief.
Abbott’s Deadline Passed — Now the Hammer Falls
Governor Greg Abbott, already having ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to locate and arrest absent lawmakers, set a final deadline of 3:00 PM Central on Monday, August 4. The message was simple: return to do your job, or face legal consequences.
But rather than obey the law they swore to uphold, Democrat Rep. Jolanda Jones doubled down in defiance at a press conference — flanked by New York Governor Kathy Hochul — taunting Abbott and the state with the phrase:
“Come and take it.”
The phrase may be iconic to Texans — but it now rings hollow from those weaponizing dereliction of duty to block representative government.
Ken Paxton: The Law Is Clear — And So Is the Verdict
In his blistering statement, AG Ken Paxton pointed directly to a 2021 Texas Supreme Court ruling, which he argued settled the matter once and for all.
That case, initiated during a previous Democrat walkout, affirmed the Legislature’s constitutional right to compel attendance under Article III, Section 10 of the Texas Constitution.
“The Texas Constitution is not optional. When you sign up to serve, you commit to show up — especially when critical legislation is on the line,” said Paxton.
“The Court was clear: The House can and must compel attendance — including arrest if necessary.”
In that ruling, the Texas Supreme Court specifically upheld the House’s power to issue warrants, send law enforcement, and use physical compulsion to bring quorum-breaking lawmakers back to the chamber.
No exceptions. No immunity. No sanctuary in Illinois.
What Are the Democrats Really Afraid Of?
The redistricting process these Democrats are running from is not new. It is a constitutional duty performed every decade after the census. What the Left truly fears is losing the stranglehold they’ve held in urban blue strongholds, which are now being balanced by explosive rural and suburban growth.
Rather than face the consequences of population shifts and fair representation, they’ve fled — hoping to paralyze the legislature and buy time for outside legal interference.
But Abbott and Paxton are calling their bluff.
A Constitutional Battle With Prophetic Implications
This is no longer just about Texas. What we are witnessing is the unraveling of America’s democratic norms at the hands of ideological zealots who will abandon office, betray voters, and mock the law if it interferes with their agenda.
Attorney General Paxton’s response signals a turning point — where constitutional conservatives refuse to allow the Left to rewrite the rules.
“This is the time to draw the line,” said a senior GOP lawmaker. “If they can run away and shut down our government, they can do it again — to an election, to a court ruling, to the will of the people. We either stand now, or we lose everything.”
The Stakes: More Than Maps — It’s the Future of the Republic
Democrats have now openly defied both the executive and judicial branches of Texas government. If they are allowed to get away with this stunt, what’s next?
- Will they flee to block election certification?
- Will they ignore SCOTUS rulings they don’t like?
- Will they declare sanctuary from the U.S. Constitution?
What starts as a quorum walkout could quickly become a blueprint for soft secession and radical lawfare — using the tools of democracy to destroy it from within.
Texans Aren’t Backing Down
Attorney General Ken Paxton and Governor Greg Abbott have made it clear: lawmakers are not above the law. Arrest warrants are authorized, and DPS officers have marching orders.
If these rogue Democrats believed they could run out the clock, they misunderstood the resolve of Texas patriots.
The time has come to restore the rule of law. The time has come to hold derelict lawmakers accountable. And the time has come to ask: If your elected officials won’t fight for the Constitution — why are they in office at all?
