A chilling horror has emerged from the woods of Fort White, Florida—one so vile it has shaken even seasoned investigators. On July 22, 2025, a family of four was arrested after nine foster and adopted children—some as young as seven—were found living in inhumane conditions, including being caged in their beds at night.
Brian Griffeth (47), Jill Griffeth (41), Dallin Griffeth (21), and Liberty Griffeth (19) were taken into custody, facing multiple felony child cruelty charges. The full extent of the abuse, revealed in court affidavits and police interviews, has triggered national outrage and renewed scrutiny of private adoption networks, systemic failures, and spiritual accountability.
Cages, Vinegar, and Power Drills: Inside the “House of Horrors”
According to arrest reports obtained by Daily Mail and People, the Griffeths created makeshift cages using plywood and power drills to trap children in bunk beds at night. The youngest victim, just seven years old, described being locked in this makeshift prison each night, deprived of bathroom access.
“It hurt so bad. I had splinters all over my chest and back,” one 14-year-old victim said, recounting a night when Jill Griffeth allegedly pressed the plywood down onto his body after he begged to be let out.
Other punishments included:
- Spraying vinegar into children’s faces to “discipline” them for things like playing games on a phone.
- Withholding food or basic hygiene access.
- Educational neglect—many of the adopted children couldn’t even recall their birthdays.
Multiple children told police that Brian Griffeth used a green drill to fasten them into their beds. One child said it was to keep them from stealing; another said it was because he was “too rough” with the dogs. Yet another recalled being caged because he was Black and seen as “less than” the Griffeths’ biological children.
Church Camp Tip-Off Uncovers Abuse
The abuse only came to light after a mandatory reporter at a Latter-day Saints church camp witnessed disturbing signs and filed a report with Florida’s Department of Children and Families (DCF) in early July.
The church staffer reported that the children seemed malnourished, overly fearful, and not receiving an education. She also expressed concern that the family primarily adopted Black children, whom they treated as “workers, not family.”
When DCF attempted an inspection, Jill initially refused to allow them inside. Under mounting pressure, she later conceded—revealing a house riddled with squalor, cruelty, and trauma.
Adopted Through Arizona—No Oversight, No Mercy
Some of the children were reportedly privately adopted from Arizona, raising new alarms about interstate adoption loopholes. In these arrangements, oversight is minimal—often allowing predators to game the system.
This tragic case mirrors past child abuse horrors, including the infamous Gravelle caging case in Ohio (2003), where adoptive parents confined children in wooden cages under the guise of “therapy.” In both cases, state welfare agencies failed to monitor children placed in dangerous environments.
Racism, Control, and a Prophetic Warning
The Griffeth case isn’t just about child abuse—it’s about systemic rot. Racial discrimination, spiritual manipulation, and bureaucratic blindness all played roles in the suffering of these nine children.
