It looks like Tulsi Gabbard just declared war on the CIA’s propaganda playbook.
In a bombshell interview on Thursday, July 31, U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard told conservative host Benny Johnson that covert media manipulation programs like the CIA’s Cold War-era “Operation Mockingbird” are not only real—they’re alive and well in 2025. The deep state, she claimed, is actively working through media proxies to undermine President Trump.
Gabbard: Media Being Used as a Weapon by Rogue Intel Insiders
When Johnson brought up “Operation Mockingbird”—the CIA’s once-classified project to embed government-aligned narratives in American newsrooms—Gabbard didn’t hesitate.
“There are people within the intelligence community who believe that their will is more important than the will of the American people,” Gabbard said. “They will weaponize intelligence by leaking it to their friends in the mainstream media with the intent of undermining President Donald Trump’s agenda.”
She laid the blame squarely on unelected intelligence operatives who have hijacked America’s democratic process.
“They are subverting the will of the people and therefore undermining the Constitution,” she warned. “None of these intelligence professionals were elected. The president of the United States was. That’s the difference.”
Undermining Trump Through Legacy Media Mouthpieces
Benny Johnson noted the parallels to media manipulation during the Russia hoax and “Obamagate” scandals. “Some would say that that’s part of Operation Mockingbird… intel agencies were using media outlets as their mouthpieces, and those mouthpieces would parrot the official narrative.”
Gabbard agreed: “It’s something we’ve already had to deal with, Benny.”
She explained that President Trump is simply fulfilling the promises he made to voters, and that intel operatives fear those promises because they threaten the permanent political class.
A Plan for Exposure and Accountability
Gabbard didn’t stop at exposing the problem—she issued a promise to take action.
“By exposing the bad actors within the intelligence community and in the political space who are weaponizing intelligence to advance their own political interests, we can begin the work to restore trust in the intelligence community,” she said.
According to Gabbard, Trump’s directive is clear: shine a light on the dark corners of the intelligence world.
“This is why President Trump’s mandate in this is really critical,” she said. “To be able to turn the light on in places that have been dark for far too long, expose the truth, and drive accountability.”
The Return of Operation Mockingbird?
The CIA’s Operation Mockingbird was first revealed during the Church Committee hearings in the 1970s. It exposed how the agency infiltrated major newsrooms and paid journalists to promote pro-government propaganda. Officially, the program was said to be dismantled—but evidence of continued influence has never fully disappeared.
Gabbard’s remarks echo long-standing concerns that such operations never truly ended—they simply evolved. Today, instead of a handful of bought-and-paid-for journalists, it may be entire editorial boards, legacy media corporations, and digital platforms echoing the preferred narratives of unelected elites.
Prophetic Implications: The War for Truth and the Battle for Control
Gabbard’s blunt revelations have not only political implications, but prophetic ones. Revelation 13 warns of a world where all institutions speak with “one voice” and serve the Beast system. If intelligence agencies are using the media to control minds and steer democracies, we may be watching that system take final shape.
As in the days of the Tower of Babel, truth is being co-opted by a technocratic priesthood who answer to no citizen, no Constitution, and no God.
