Chinese Warships Arrive in Vladivostok for High-Stakes Show of Force Near U.S. Military Exercises
As global alliances fracture and military fault lines harden, China and Russia have once again joined forces in a high-profile Pacific naval drill, “Joint Sea 2025,” signaling a bold escalation of their strategic partnership against Western influence in the Asia-Pacific.
On Thursday, Chinese guided-missile destroyers Shaoxing and Urumqi arrived in Vladivostok, the home of Russia’s Pacific Fleet, for a five-day joint exercise that will include live-fire drills, air defense operations, anti-submarine warfare, and coordinated naval aviation missions in the Sea of Japan.

The drills overlap with the massive U.S.-led “Resolute Force Pacific 2025” war games, involving over 12,000 American and allied troops, 400 aircraft, and simultaneous deployments across Hawaii, Guam, Japan, and international airspace.

“This is Beijing’s maritime Belt and Road—by force projection,” warned Dr. Michael Pillsbury, Pentagon advisor and author of The Hundred-Year Marathon. “This patrol network is part of China’s long game to outflank the U.S. Navy and dominate the Indo-Pacific by 2030.”
