In an unprecedented move signaling a deeper shift toward religious authoritarianism and ideological control, Russia’s Supreme Court has officially banned the so-called “international Satanism movement,” declaring it an extremist organization—despite the fact that no such formal group exists.

The decision follows the Kremlin’s 2023 ban on the equally fictitious “international LGBT movement.” Both moves are part of an emerging pattern: targeting loosely defined social or ideological identities under the banner of extremism.

But behind the legalese and supposed moral panic lies a more sinister purpose: the consolidation of state power under a theocratic-nationalist framework, and a chilling new avenue to suppress artists, critics, and ideological dissenters.

“Satanism” as a Tool of Control

The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office justified the ruling by painting a vivid—some would say cartoonish—picture of Satanism as a threat to the spiritual and national fabric of the country.

The office described the movement as rooted in “hatred and hostility toward traditional religious denominations” and claimed links to “radical nationalism and neo-Nazism,” even alleging “ritual killings,” grave desecration, and cannibalism.

Enter Roman Silantyev, a self-proclaimed “expert” whose conspiracy-fueled testimony helped drive the ruling. According to Silantyev, “tens of thousands of Satanists” roam Russia—allegedly committing around 300 “ritual murders” since 1993.

“The Satanist movement made only a minimal and highly questionable contribution to culture,” he told TASS, “mostly by providing material for horror movie plots.”

What’s notably absent from all this? Evidence. Defendants. Or a single identifiable organization. In fact, because there’s no legal entity, there’s no one to appeal the decision—making the ruling legally unchallengeable by design.

The Real Targets: Artists, Musicians, and Political Dissenters

While some may dismiss this as religious hysteria, human rights experts say the implications are far more serious.

According to Department One, a Russian human rights group, the vagueness of the ruling opens the door for arbitrary enforcement against anyone who displays “Satanic” symbols or themes—even if unknowingly.

“Visual art, music, and literature exploring death, evil, or demonic themes—common in black metal, gothic, or industrial genres—are now legally suspect,” the group warned.

That includes everything from pentagrams on album covers to gothic fashion, tattoos, or occult symbolism in art. The fear is that the Kremlin will use this ambiguity to silence dissent, especially among subcultures already critical of the war in Ukraine, authoritarianism, or Orthodox nationalism.

What Counts as “Satanic”? No One Knows

One of the most alarming aspects is the lack of legal clarity.

According to lawyer Maxim Olenichev, Russian law requires extremist symbols to be listed in an organization’s charter—but in this case, no charter exists because the group itself does not exist.

“The court’s ruling violates legal procedure, but in practice, it doesn’t matter,” Olenichev says. “People are being prosecuted even when they have no idea what the symbols are.”

If that sounds dystopian, it is.

In the aftermath of the 2023 ban on the “international LGBT movement,” courts retroactively deemed rainbow flags to be banned symbols. Seven-color rainbows—even in personal photos—became criminally prosecutable.

Globalist Echoes: Spiritual Panic Meets Surveillance State

While this appears to be a uniquely Russian development, it mirrors tactics long used by authoritarian regimes: invoke a spiritual enemy, justify draconian laws, then use those laws to police thought, expression, and dissent.

Banning a group that doesn’t exist is a blank check for tyranny.

And it fits perfectly with a globalist pattern: from Western “hate speech” laws to EU censorship of “disinformation,” governments are increasingly criminalizing belief systems under vague, unverifiable categories.

Russia simply puts a theocratic spin on it—weaponizing Orthodoxy to build a digital-age inquisition.

Prophetic Implications: Revelation in Real Time

The Book of Revelation speaks of a time when spiritual warfare becomes legal warfare, where worship, belief, and allegiance to God are monitored, punished, and outlawed.

Revelation 13:15-17 (KJV): “And cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed… and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark.”

We are watching the criminalization of spiritual alternatives to the state-sanctioned ideology—whether that ideology is secular globalism in the West or Orthodox nationalism in Russia.

The target is no longer just physical behavior—it’s symbolism, belief, and intent.

And what begins as a ban on “Satanism” may soon include anything outside of government-approved religious conformity.

Final Warning: Who’s Next?

When you ban a fictional movement, you’re not banning real criminals—you’re creating a pretext to hunt undesirables.

Artists, musicians, goth teens, independent thinkers—all now subject to prosecution in Russia for a worldview the state can’t even define.

Today it’s Satanic symbolism. Tomorrow it could be your Bible, your cross necklace, or your opinion.

Let the world take notice: Russia’s war on Satanism isn’t about faith—it’s about fear, control, and the criminalization of freedom.
