Just as momentum was building around the long-suppressed Jeffrey Epstein files, House leaders abruptly canceled Thursday’s legislative session—fleeing Washington a day early for the five-week August recess. They won’t return until September.

Discharge Petition Explodes, Speaker Melts Down

At the center of the storm: a long-dormant discharge petition filed by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), designed to force a full House vote on releasing the classified Epstein client list and files.

After years of being ignored, the petition is suddenly gaining traction—reportedly surpassing 10 Republican signatures, the minimum needed to bypass House Speaker Mike Johnson and compel a floor vote.
