The letter, signed by eleven members of Congress, accuses the NIH of prolonging cruel, outdated research practices despite mounting public outcry and scientific alternatives.

The move comes as disturbing footage and whistleblower reports continue to surface—revealing dogs, monkeys, and other animals subjected to unthinkable procedures in the name of government science.

Congressional Letter Demands End to Cruelty

The official letter, addressed to current NIH leadership, outlines shocking allegations of needless pain and suffering inflicted on animals during failed experiments. The lawmakers point to studies in which beagles were drugged, infected with parasites, and left to suffer without anesthesia, while other tests involved brain-damaging procedures on primates.

Though Dr. Fauci officially stepped down from public office in 2022, his influence still looms large over the agencies he once controlled. Many of the animal experiments in question began under his tenure as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

“Fauci’s legacy isn’t just about COVID—it’s about cruelty, secrecy, and unchecked power,” said animal rights advocate Justin Goodman from the White Coat Waste Project.

The organization has played a key role in exposing secretive taxpayer-funded animal testing programs through FOIA requests and congressional briefings. According to their reports, over $20 billion has been spent on animal experimentation since 2000, much of it shielded from public view.

NIH Digs In, Defends the Indefensible

Despite public backlash, the NIH continues to defend these experiments, citing “scientific necessity” and “regulatory compliance.” But critics argue that such excuses are obsolete, especially with modern technology like organ-on-chip systems, 3D tissue modeling, and AI simulations offering viable alternatives.

“This isn’t about science—it’s about institutional pride and financial contracts that should’ve been terminated years ago,” said Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL).

Meanwhile, several former NIH insiders are beginning to speak out, alleging that much of the testing was redundant, unproductive, and motivated by grant preservation—not genuine medical breakthroughs.
