House passes bill protecting same-sex marriages, measure now goes to Biden for his signature

The Senate passed the bill, the Respect for Marriage Act, last week by a 61–36 vote.

The House on Thursday voted 259-169 to approve the Respect for Marraige Act to protect same-sex and interracial unions.

The Senate passed the bill, the Respect for Marriage Act, last week by a 61–36 vote.

The bill now goes to President Joe Biden, who has voiced support for signing the bill into law. The legislation will require all states to recognize same-sex marriages. It will also protect interracial unions by mandating for states to recognize marriages regardless of “sex, race, ethnicity, or national origin.”
