(Natural News) In 1992, scientists at the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) made a ruling that has forever changed our world. Over a quarter of a century ago, the FDA sold out to corporations and boldly proclaimed that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) were a safe and efficient means of food production. At the time they stated, “the agency is not aware of any information showing that foods derived from genetically engineered plants, as a class, differ from other foods in any meaningful or uniform way.” The agency went on to say that this new technology posed absolutely no health risks. All these FDA official statements, which continue as a lynchpin of today’s industrial chemical agriculture system, were made without a single study looking into the long-term the effects of these foods. Without a comparison of GMO versus non-GMO foods, how can anyone be sure that there are no differences?
Since these foods, and the seeds that grow them, have been on the scene, four corporate marketing claims have morphed into major selling points. Over and over, it is proclaimed the technology is safe, and, if farmers use genetic engineering (GE) technology, their yields will increase, the use of pesticides and herbicides will decrease and the farmers will be part of an elite crowd because using this technology is the only way to feed the world.
