“When Faith Meets Desire”
I grew up in a different culture than I live in today. Many of you could say the same thing. We had a saying in the south, “A man’s word was his bond.” When a person made a commitment it was normally sealed with a handshake, but the handshake was just a formality. The fact that you spoke a word of promise meant that you were going to do everything within your power to accomplish that which you had spoken. A person who continually put actions behind his words was known as a “man of his word.” A person who did not follow through with his promise was known as a liar. Pretty simple.
In this week’s Torah portion, HaShem speaks four “I wills” to Moshe to pass on to the people. He states He will free them from forced labor, rescue them from oppression, redeem, take them as His people, be their Elohim and bring them back to the Covenant Land.
I have a question regarding these four promises. Is HaShem a “Man” of His word? Of course the knee jerk response is, “yes”. Let me ask the question again, but before you answer so quickly, ponder the question again. Do you really believe HaShem is “Man” of His Word totally and completely? Search your heart more deeply and ask yourself, “Does my lifestyle and the decisions I make on a daily basis reflect my answer?” I’m asking myself these questions this week. (Click to Article)
